Well that makes twice now that I've completed level 8 and the game doesn't save my progress. I guess there's no point in playing anymore. Too bad, I was having fun.
What's up with level 8? Any time I open a chest on level 8 with a key the game freezes for a while and doesn't give me any rewards, although it uses the key. In addition, I finished level 8 completely, then came back the next day and all of my progress was lost. Plus, I can't seem to exit the level! Something's borked.
Not much of a game here, more of a technology demonstration. No instructions, no variety, no real point. It might be the basis of a good game some time in the future.
The game is fun, but the balance needs some attention. Especially the strategic aspect of it. For example, why on earth would I spend resources to defend a town, when the cost of defending a town is MORE than the cost for losing to the assault, and defending a town doesn't even guarantee a win?
I completed "The Mountain Horror," got the gem, and still had 2 treasure bags, one one-way door, and one drumstick left, but I only got a silver star. I thought that getting the gem with 2+ treasure bags left qualified for a gold star. Am I missing something?
Very nicely done. The artwork is very nice, the tool for finding differences works well, and I liked how the two pictures merged as you found differences. One big disappointment, though, was the music. It was waaaaaay to repetitive. I turned it off after the second picture.
A great set of spells is this:
Energy Storm - uses all energy gems for mana and damage
Fool's Gold - converts all gold gems to poison gems
Poison Storm - uses all poison gems for mana and damage
Sneak Attack - Gives extra turns for weapon attacks
Planned Assault - uses all rage gems for rage
A big-ass weapon - uses all that yummy rage for tons of damage.
Stock up your character with damage bonuses and some regeneration and you're pretty much set.
Despite the years, this remains probably the best Flash game I've played. The combination of character building and tactical combat is unparalleled in my opinion. The only criticism I might have is that the itemization is inconsistent, so that certain character builds are only supported in certain stages of the game. Still, that's a small quibble for a great game.
@JSilvis - It's been a while since I played, but I seem to recall that there are a couple more options for the Ninja champions. One of the crypt upgrades has a chance to confuse the enemy. If you place a crypt with confusion at the start, you can get lucky and confuse the champion, allowing time for the invisibility to run out. I think there's another tower that will slow an enemy ... that might work, too.
@JSilvis - Use the temples and upgrade them to the volcano - it's an AoE that hits everything around it whether visible or not. A fully upgraded temple will one-shot a ninja. Just hope that there is something visible to trigger the temple to fire, catching any hiding ninjas as well. Usually between those and the meteors and a little luck I can pull out a perfect badge - although there is still that one ninja champion that eludes me...
This game would be pretty cool if you could earn a little more gold, and actually get enough experience to level up, and the level-ups actually had a meaningful impact on gameplay. Seriously, I earn about 50-100 gold per map - that puts a hero roughly 15-20 maps away. I get about 250-300 xp per map - that puts levels about 4-8 maps apart. And for a new level, 1% bonus to damage? Is that a joke? Why bother?
I've said it before, but I'll say it again: 2 barbarians + conjurer + cleric = pretty much complete invincibility.
Obviously other people have found combinations that work for them, but this one is tops in my book!
Made it to wave 116 (beat 115, died on 116) on survival. I used a cleric, ranger, warrior, and conjurer. I was doing pretty well until the point where the dwarf crossbows could kill my war golem with a single shot. Defense is king!
I'm using 2 barbarians, a cleric, and a conjurer. After about level 4, I was pretty much invincible. One barbarian focused on endurance and defensive items, one barbarian focused on pure damage. Between those two, and constant feeding from manasprites, nothing could last long. Nothing beats an Anointed barbarian using Whirlwind who triggers Brutality :)
