A little disappointed as it's essentially the same game as #2 with one or two little alterations... but I do love the series, and it's still good to play. Level editor looks like great fun, as well.
Very impressed so far. Everything seems a step up from the rest of the games, and goes a long way to restoring my faith in the Protector series after the relatively poor #3. Great depth and gameplay, and all the little things that contribute towards a top game. Easily the best Protector to date.
Little bug - I was supposed to be playing Germany in the semi finals, but ended up against Greece, who were on the other side of the draw. Back on the schedule, the it says I beat Germany.
Not enough room for this on my last one... pets. Pets are reasonable fun for about 2 zones, then they become a liability. Keeping them alive is perhaps the hardest part of this game, especially later on. It's all great being given a pet skeleton, but take it to see some bad skeletons and the damn thing's dead after 6 hits, having done 8 damage on each of his own attacks while taking hits of 80 or more. You could level it up in easier zones, but getting it to a stage where it might be able to survive a whole screen in Magma Crater would take about an hour. Then it'd die on the second screen. Nice idea, but not really worth it.
Played a little more. The game's like a big, lovely planet being orbited by dozens of crap little moons. Inventory isn't big enough. Controls are still clunky. Animation of effects works, but half the time the effects themselves don't... a few moments ago I was a walking block of ice being attacked by a stunned ice elemental. Frequently, commands just don't register for whatever reason. It's not unusual to just get stuck somewhere, unable to move until you hit/magic something. It's an addictive, fun game, despite all that. But with the work that must have gone into it, just think what it could have been.
Rare that I see what could have been a great game knocked down to being simply a decent one by lack of basic stuff. A better map, arrows or some marker on the ground to let you know where there's another screen, better saving spots. Controls feel clunky too. It's a fun game, and I could probably sit and play it for hours, but... could have been so much better with a couple of tiny additions.
Might as well get the first comment on my game, and justify the existence of said game with the following line... at least it's not a dressing up game :)
Just not feeling the same love as so many others for this. Yes, it's good, but the entire game's difficulty depends on a single enemy, the ninja. Easy easy easy easy easy ninja easy easy easy easy ninja boss. That's all you need to think about and plan for, which kind of kills the fun for me a bit. But I do like the upgrade system, skills, graphics and restrictions on tower placement. So an overall 4/5.
Love it - smooth movements, no lag, tracks are great and the cars move nicely. Only downer being the abilty to take almost any corner at full throttle.
Well, I've so far managed to endure the second level, and although I don't share the level of dislike towards this game that others seem to, I'm finding it pretty crap. The controls are truly horrific, the levels are dull, unexciting repeats of themselves (well, so far as I've seen, having just started level 3). Problems which can't and won't be resolved by future version numbers either, I expect. And to top it all off, it features the most hilariously optimistic 'exclusive content, buy now' I've ever seen. Kind of like giving people a free sample of a year-old cheesecake and inviting them to buy all the now-rotting ingredients which created it...
The more I play this the more I dislike it. Lack of quality control, the horribly inconvenient speed button... and it just gets dull so fast. So far behind many other TDs it's unreal, and getting bored of the whole Bloons thing. Hopefully this will be the last.
Uses more RAM than a whole flock of horny sheep... and for no discernable reason, which is always a downer. Tanked completely when it got stuck trying to do something with swftracker. Unplayable for me, sadly.
Really got into it in the end, which surprised me. Loved the gameplay, nice simple graphics, general idea. Didn't much like that the hardest part of any level is the start - once that's done, you can't lose. But overall a 5/5
