On alchemist and potions:
Atk Potion: increases damage during 30 sec.
Def Potion: increases defense during 30 sec.
HP potion: permanently increases maximum HP.
Sta Potion: permanently increases maximum Stamina.
Spd Potion: permanently increases walking speed.
End Potion: permanently reduces Stamina cost for walking.
Note however that there's a hard cap on the permanent potions, limiting how many you can benefit from each of them, currently being: 4 speed, 4 endurance, 5 health and 5 stamina potions max. Drinking more results in no benefit.

There's not really a real 'good guy' among the champions really, Edmee. From the gist of the cards pretty much everyone is corrupt, extremist or dangerously involved with black magicks.
You can terraform the unusable red tiles/swamp tiles away if they're detrimental for you, just increase elevation a bit and decrease it back to normal.
There's something off about those spirits, I mean, it seems them all come with completely random attack speed, when I get into a room, some of them attack, some do nothing, some decide to attack twice. Are they supposed to be like that?
