2/5 because it's pretty, but otherwise one of the most boring games I have ever played.
Seriously, the only gameplay is to try to find which two elements match ??
The save file being deleted on load is fine in theory (though debatable, really), but in practice, if the browser, or computer, crashes before you save again, you lose everything.
Furthermore it's really not hard to find that file and back it up anyway.
I would probably give this game a 5 if it weren't for this.
Before trying live matches, you should always have devised a strategy and practiced it in the 3rd tutorial map. That map is the best place for getting used to the precision required for the Meteor Dish and USS Iowa.
There are two types of lag people seem to be talking about: slowness of the game, and server lag. The lag spikes are annoying (hella), but game slowness can be dealt with.
Slow gameplay ? Speed it up on your own: Pick SAM right away and go rush that USS rusher ! You can take down their first village before they can do anything, and be pounding on the second by the time they're ready for a counter (note: won't work on all maps).
It probably won't work against someone higher rated than you, and you'll have to practice before getting it to work on someone your level... But games won't usually last more than 10 minutes that way ;)
Game running slow ? Flash seems to mess garbage collection up: after several games, everything becomes mad laggy (maybe what most people are complaining about). If that happens, just hit F5 for refresh (or maybe even close the browser down, not sure).
Also turn down all the settings in the option, turn off the music too, it takes CPU cycles.
Connection problems ? Have you checked your firewall settings ?
If it still doesn't work despite that, then the server may just be temporarily down (it's a free server after all).
All boss encounters are easy if you have a Warrior with an ok shield and over 40 quickness, and a Ranger with over 60 quickness (and you've been upgrading endurance only on the warrior and no one else): the Ranger casts Swiftness at the beginning, then the Warrior can cast Shield Wall before the enemy gets to do much. The Cleric shouldn't be too quick so that healing can occur right after the enemy attacks. On the second turn the Ranger can Pin a problematic range unit, or add to the Mage's Electrical Storm with Hail of Arrows. Remember to use potions before the fight if you have to, and that a Scroll of Deception can get you past a boss if it pops at the beginning of a level and you don't feel ready for it. Also you can probably start burning through those scrolls around level 35 or 40 if you just want to skip to the level 50.
USB mice SUCK !!!
Seriously I do so much better at this game with a PS/2 mouse it ain't even funny.
Any one figure out how to get USB mice not to drop frames ?
