You don't need to pay any money. Everything is available for ingame currency called tokens and honor points, just look more closely.
As for Battlecash, you can earn it in different ways:
1) invite your friends using referral link;
2) participate in weekly tournaments (1 b-cash for every victory);
3) you have a chance to win 1 b-cash for victory above an officer of opposite faction;
4) buy b-cash for tokens or honor points in the game shop (first page).
Man some people are stupid. WE HAVE ACHIEVEMENTS (which is the same as awards and badges). You think oh, I might get a best comment if I say "needs badges" or "needs awards".
To those who say the first raze was better: explain why! How could a game that is nearly identical to another but with upgrades and new awesome features be worse than the other?
