bakerej, xJTCx - thanks for your comments. This is my first attempt at Flash/Actionscript so I wasn't expecting much. I'll try and fix the controls and think of a better background. Originally I wanted it to look like it was hung on a gallery wall but I had some problems making it look good. I noticed the thing about the 3 primary colours but if you look at actual Mondriaan paintings they include blocks of black -- I think they're supposed to be really thick lines.
