Nice game, great music, great backgrounds. All around awesome. Will say though, I think I found Waldo and a few of his cousins faster than I did some of the items in this game.
Now time for the good stuff. The genre. I love the genre because I grew up on arcade style fighting games and love them to death. If i seriously get the chance I will buy a few old arcade games for my house! The second thing I love is the general design of the game, yes at points it gets repetitive, but that is kind of the point from my pov and i dont really mind it that much. The bosses are creative and have that old element of a puzzle+action combo I like though at times i swear at the screen for dying for the 50th time. This game has potential but needs some serious tweaking at some points. Still love it though 3.5/5
Being that if i am in the middle of a punch or combo i have to wait till the damn combo is over in order to use the block but if i wanted to barrel roll my ass out of the situation it happens instantly. The last sort of complaint is the powerups. I dont mind it really, but it is the distribution of powerups that kind of irks me here. I have access to 17 different moves that i cant use but (this is just for me) i really only use about 5 of them to be honest. I havent even bothered to but exp in some of the others because I find them useless in situations. The added part of this distribution is that there arent enough item/stat enhancers or the variety is kind of dim, but once again this is really just an opinion granted there are only four stats to really enhance here, but I also dont think I have utilized the item feature to its full potential there.
The next problem I find is the blocking mechanism. This is more towards how you are supposed to know when to do anything to block. This came really apparent with enemies that would throw/shoot things especially the robots, when you were fighting close range. Overtime for melee only enemies I started to develop the sense of when they would attack but it was really mostly reaction time and your reaction time better be on spot to get the just defended else your ass is on the ground. The other down side is that when something that does shoots, shoots at you, only a unknown percentage gets blocked. This really could go either way except when the first bullet isnt blocked in a chain of somewhere around six bullets. The last thing I have a problem with in relation to blocking is the response time. It takes way to long and it cant interrupt combos like other moves can.
I guess this will be my overall review of this game because I think something of this ilk really needs one, so lets start with the negatives: The first negative I think i need to point out is that the damage done by all of the enemies is the same from when you start to when you finish. This is sort of a problem for me because there is no dynamic relation to increase or decrease in level overtime except for possibly the number of enemies on screen. This was also really annoying because in like the first three levels i was dying relatively quickly and it took forever to get exp to get some sort of upgrade to really handle anybody for more than two minutes to get exp and advance along the level. With this in mind there is also no armor upgrade, though given the actual look of the character I am not really sure what that upgrade would look like. The closest thing is upgrade in the health bar which kinda helps but still gives you arbitrarily one more hit before you die.
NOOOOOOOOO I WAS THERE I WAS THERE I WAS GOING TO KILL THE LAST BOSS AND ITS GONE ITS ALL GONE!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! -sobs and cries, dies in corner-
Love the game its great 5/5 ^___^ oh and in the ruins behind that yellow slime, there seems to be a treasure chest i cannot open, anyone else having that problem o.0!??!
