After more playing, I agree with the longer comments here. A simple strategy will win almost entirely regardless of the level. Try narrowing to a few turret types with specific and obvious powers (anti-air, freeze, whatever), so that we have to choose unit sets to go in on certain paths. Force more strategy and difficulty and this could be a great game.
Fantastic idea. I love anti-games (kinda like the current Asteroid Revenge as well), and it's nice to see a throwback to what might currently be the #1 Flash genre. I like Prawn's idea of PvP, though that would be difficult. Faster speed would be useful, and I'd like a slicker interface for selecting entry points and such. A great concept though and I look forward to seeing a more refined version. 4/5 as it stands. :)
One big complaint: colorization of the bullets. Enemy and friendly bullets look the same, and this is problematic when it gets frantic.
Other than that, nice take on the flOw gameplay ideas and turning it into a shooter. A great experience, though perhaps a little on the easy side. Plus, as has been said, I'd like to see you take the upgrading system further. There's no real reason the front cannon can't go through the same upgrades as the begging ship. Then let the back cannon do the same, each step the front cannon starting over. You could get about 9 times as many upgrades that way - would really keep people going, as long as you can ramp up the difficulty enough. 5/5
I agree with a lot of these comments. Basically, you have a great tutorial here with some fantastic play mechanics. Now, go into a full game with 50+ levels, spread out the power-ups, and give some more puzzles and variety. Fantastic mechanics here, just needs to be developed into a full-length game! Still, a 5/5. :-) 6/5 if you make it longer.
Ragdoll games are always quite entertaining. Take note - physics is the new gameplay mechanic of the decade.
However, as has been said, the game lacks long-term appeal. Worse yet, there is no score counter. I don't know why games do this, but I hate it, as it makes it much less exciting to not know how close you are to the next score.
Strangely compelling, though the interface and graphics need some work. I like that you're working on a new idea in a crowded genre, but right now it's all small and hard to see. Plus, with only one type of tower you are somewhat limited in strategy. I also would like to see a little more predictability in the spawn locations of enemies. And a thorough tutorial. A 3/5 right now, but with some work could easily become a 5/5.
Actually, I find it extremely appropriate that this game is #1337. This is perhaps the geekiest game on Kongregate, and is for some reason compelling, despite being entirely luck. No long term replay value, but a fun toy. Thanks!
Really, my biggest complaint with this game is the false advertising. You claim that it is "fast-paced action", but in fact it's one of the slowest games I've played. You spend minutes waiting around doing nothing. It's a nice concept with a fun combination of skill, strategy, and a little luck, but it really drags after the second or third level.
Also, add a shortcut so that a spacebar or arrow press can go to the next level (having to click the mouse is extremely annoying for a keyboard-only game).
Fantastic concept with simple and clean implementation. Wonderful game, though agreed that boredom can set in after enough levels. Perhaps higher difficulty or something else to keep it interesting? Well done!
Another excellent music-sync game from Coolio. Well done. And no, you didn't steal anything, ignore CheatMaster. Credited, and totally different gameplay. If you want to see the best example of a music-shmup sync, check out Rez. It's a Dreamcast/PS2 game, kinda hard to find, but an incredible experience. All of the explosions are snyched. That's impressive. :-) But well done here - I always enjoy your games!
A fine extension of the classic lunar lander game, but has some serious implementation problems. Collision detection is off (are you using rectangular bounding boxes on your obstacles?) and the ship _really_ needs to rotate faster. The physics is nice on the box and string, but there are some rough edges that must be ironed out. More UI elements would be nice too (a level counter, a pause to show the point of contact with perhaps a little red circle highlighting it, etc.). Right now, a 2/5. Could become a 4/5 with some minor improvements.
Great game! This s a nice version of the classic trader games (what was it...Drug Wars?). I agree with some of the comments so far. Really, some UI upgrades would be nice to give more information. For example, I'd love to see the price I bought stuff at when I go to sell (so I don't have to write it all down...). Great game though!
Nice concept. I thought I was going to be bored, but it quickly jumped off into a nice evolution of an overdone game. However, I'm only giving it a 3/5 for a couple of reasons. First, it's slow to pick up difficulty. I got over 29k on my first try, and that took a while to happen. Secondly, you don't have the Kong API for high scores implemented. You jump to a 4/5 if you get that up and running so we can play against eachother! :-)
Wow Pierce, I'm impressed. I wonder though - are you playing on a laptop/old computer? I think there's a programming issue here. When I switched from my laptop to my desktop it all got quite a bit faster. Definitely favors those with slower computers. :-( (which kinda makes my score feel less cool now, even at #2)...
Hey, that was remarkably entertaining. Kinda low on replay value, but excellent animation and gameplay, combined with some good humor! Nicely done - everyone should play this through at least once.
Hmmm...ok, usually I'm not one to brag, but apparently I have a certain aptitude for this game. :-) That 35,000 score was my first try. ;-) (I'm sure someone will put me to shame shortly, so I wanted to get bragging rights in while I still could!)
A fun concept, though I wouldn't call it entirely original. Multi-game games have existed (heck, I used to play two-player Ms. Pac-Man on my own - that'll mess with your head too). If you like this kind of stuff, check out Arcadia some time. Sadly, not free (has free trial), but it's crazy. Overall though, cool game - needs tighter keyboard controls though (make acceleration _much_ higher!).
