The way that works consistantly for me (under 2 days): Comrades, R-Rocket, radar. Ditch the comrades as close as you can to the 0 point, use the e rockets after you've slowed down (probably somewhere around the moon...no joke)
Anyone else notice that the riders (the cheap unit) are the most cost effective option for getting EXP...
so basically spam riders on the first level until you have upgraded everything
