Somehow he splatted when he landed at 98% injury. This led to multiple instances of the game to run itself. One where I went straight to the shop, then the other that popped up saying I killed him whereupon I went to the shop again. Left when the chorus of cheers greeted me as a round.
I found out how to equip helmets on your feet and other stuff! Just drag a currently equipped item over one in your inventory, even if it doesn't go there.
