It does if you eliminate both cars at the same time. like if there is a car behind the other one and you crash into it you should still be alive. i was boosting while i did it so that might be another factor to consider

TIP: To get money easily select the race mode, then play the free map. when you start go backwards and eliminate the other cars. then when there all destroyed collect all the markers, then finish the race. you should get around 8000$.

its a result of there only being 2 ai cars, you could destroy one, then spend an hour doing air control tricks and finish the race with crazy money (similar to what you posted above though i don't understand how you are doing that : )
add a multi-player version where you play as either the road or a car. and have to be the last car surviving. the road can only place like 10 objects at a time.
