I always dislike coming across the illusion of choice in games, where multiple options are offered to you but they all do the same thing. The player actions are entirely meaningless; nothing you can do or say will change the story. I also really don't think Unity should have been used for such a simple project, since it can cause problems with a number of web browsers.

Developer response from Raius_

I wanted to give consequence to choices but I didn't have the time or skill at the time. And you're right but I'm trying to learn all I can about Unity so I'm using it for everything. If I make a game with actual funding and at a more serious level, I'd put more focus on choosing the right engine and all that. Thanks for playing though and thanks for the feedback

The Learn to Fly games are always pretty good, but unfortunately this one doesn't match up to the Hedgehog Launch games.

The underlying game needs to be solid before you start to think about adding things like crafting and additional areas to explore. The main problem here is that the game is very boring. Combat consists of pressing the "attack" button until you win, which is the very first thing that needs to change. If you can't find a way to add more party members, you need to give both the player and the monsters access to game changing skills. A basic heal would be a great start.

Developer response from Disruption

Hi! The game is still heavily in development so we are exploring all options. We usually wouldn't upload a game in progress, but we were kinda forced to because it was part of the contest here in kong, as it's explained on the game's intro. Regarding healing, though, it's not there in purpose, and it's not going to be there (Although I will add an option for 'eating' once a year that restores a certain amount of health/sp. The reason for not having healing is that you can spend health and sp to gather resources and you have to also fight, so health is a scarce resource you have to manage really well every year (There will be a pacifist mode where you won't have to care much about it though) Cheers and thanks for your comment! Dis.

@Chaosinmotion: Like pretty much every RPG you've ever played, there is an "accept" button, Z, and a "cancel" button, X. Just press X to escape from any such selection menu. This is all detailed in the game instructions on the right side of your game window.

Developer response from Disruption

Hi! Thanks for answering that on my behalf. I tried putting the title message for the instructions in bold to make it more obvious but I guess it's easy to miss it :( Cheers! Dis.

I like that the prices for blacksmithing are kept from hyper-inflating to a much greater degree than some other idlers I've seen. Sometimes I get tired of playing games where I have to keep track of resources that have climbed into the vigintillions (Yes, that is a real number. I've gotten to that order of magnitude playing Swarm Simulator, and it gets a little silly.)

Right now this game has way too much empty space. At 14 I ventured past the bridge and found nothing important until the house to buy at Senectus. I re-explored at 19 (wasting another ten boring minutes or so) and was disappointed to find nothing new. Add to this that monster battles in the Jevuntus mine become trivial very quickly (monsters cannot damage you, but still take about half a minute each to kill) and you have an exceptionally boring game. 3/5

Developer response from Disruption

Hi! As the description says, this was an entry for the GiTD, so it was done in just ten days, and it's being worked on now for adding a lot more functionality. This means that there can be some bugs here and then, and there is not that much to do, because of those reasons. If you check the update notes and some of my comments you will see the list of things that will be added later on, as the game is not currently finished per se.

Most elements in this game have a sort of logic, but inevitably this type of game will always include sections where you just have to guess what the dev wants you to do. I despise that.

Some things don't seem to function as intended. For example because the time attack picks up where you left off, you can just reset the clock to get more time whenever you want. I also don't think there was any reason to use unity for this game, as 3D doesn't appear to have been used significantly. Unity doesn't play nice with some browsers, such as Waterfox, so using it unnecessarily is a poor decision. Despite some shortcomings, it is a solid idler. 4/5

Game does not appear to be completely supported for Waterfox. I just finished all four stages of a hard mode, earning 3675 silver, only to have the game freeze on completion and fail to exit back to the map. When I reloaded, I had not received any of my earnings. 3/5 Until Waterfox is supported.

The "story" of this game is so generic it makes my head ache. Add to that the regurgitated concepts of monster taming/training that we've all seen many times before, and the repetitive grind of gameplay, and you have a 2/5 rating.

I've never had issues with memory leaks in these games, but regardless I'm sad to see things take a drastic step backwards to a mere arena style RPG game. At least the previous incarnations had the possibility of exploring the levels to keep things interesting. How disappointing.

Solid graphics, but the game is much too slow even with animations turned off. Add to that you must manually set the position of every single unit even if you're restarting a battle (it should keep your old setup in case you just want to tweak a little) and the game really makes itself difficult to enjoy.

The fact that heat outlets need heat exchangers to function make them far less useful than I had hoped. For now, based on the fact that the Thorium Cell reactor transmits heat up to two spaces, it makes more sense just to build a single thorium cell surrounded by eight water cooled reactors.

I doubt that anyone misses bonus ticks, but it's still confusing to have them suddenly disappear with no explanation. What's going on, dev?

There was a bug and it is fixed now! A few days no bonus ticks were given, but now all is back to normal.

To calculate how much money your reactors cost per tick, divide building cost by number of ticks per lifetime. Upgrading reactor lifetime for a particular energy type will cut this cost in half. The next upgrade will reduce the new cost by half, and so on. Notice then that the effectiveness of the upgrade is therefore greatly reduced while the price of the upgrade increases tenfold. This is why it is never wise to purchase more than one lifetime upgrade per energy type once you get past windmills.

@Debylas: Water pump production and generator max water capacity can both be upgraded, a fact that I'm quite certain you were not aware of. Doing so causes water cooling to vastly outpace standard generator production per upgrade cost. Water cooling currently allows the production of over 98% of my power, making it essential to ensure that water cooling is provided to every single generator.

@ZeoX: You are mistaken about Gas Power being as good as Nuclear. In order to get gas to produce comparable energy to nuclear lv1, you need to upgrade gas to lv 13. This in itself takes many billions of dollars, and on top of that the next upgrade for gas would cost 144 billion, whereas nuclear would only cost 10 billion. At this point the only thing gas has in its favor is the cost per unit, a fact which rapidly dwindles in importance as the cost for upgrades increases. Also, boilers and sinks are only effective for a short portion of the game right after their discovery. Then you switch back to generators.
