Offline Progress Work-around: When done with one session, Export and re-import at the next session. It stinks, but has been working rather well for me. (Plus, emailing myself the export strings have been a nice backup.)
As a computer developer, I can vouch that any significant change is difficult for an existing user base. At first I felt "oh no this game is ruined!" I had to relearn patterns of play. However, I can see that this game is now much more touch friendly. While I miss the ability to see both my stores and upgrade information on a single screen, I have pretty quickly adapted and am back to my pre-switch level of enjoyment (but now look forward to this on touch-based platforms).
One standard technique is that if updates are backwards compatible (and these essentially are) is to leave the "legacy" or "classic" interface available. If possible, that would be great (especially since the new touch interface is a bit more cumbersome for a mouse - especially the click-drag scrolling). However, all-in-all I do applaud the interface redesign.
At the author's web site Godlimations.com, it says "God's animation be done". This plot was so harsh, that I thought it was an argument against Christian fundamentalism, a parody of the literal interpretation of the book of Revelations. However, seeing that the author apparently believes this extremely harsh view of Christ, has tainted my perception of this otherwise work of art.
Fun! For added replay value, it would be neat to have unlockable achievements and capabilities (increased top speed, better jumping, styles of tricks, etc.)
I'm missing something here. PROS: The quality of the music, organization of the interface, fluidity of graphics, impact of sound effects, and humor of the quotes is excellent. CONS: This "puzzle" game simply has no puzzle qualities to it. Random permutations of click-drag events with "guess what the author thought would be cool interactions" does not make a captivating game. SUMMARY: The game itself is horrible: its success lies in its stellar presentation.
I really enjoy these artistic pieces. Maybe there should be a new category for "Loved", "The Company of Myself", "Don't Look Back" and similar games that have an intentional abstract bent. Anyway, very enjoyable work of art!
This is a game that approaches art. With an entertaining story, easy interface, mood setting graphics, sound, and music, and excellent character animation, it gets a 5.
Yes, it is short (notice they call themselves "fast games"), but it is wonderful for the particular genre.
Bravo...
Starting over is a bit of a drag. Lives or even better levels would be nice so more people could appreciate your work. I'm inspired to see what newer levels bring, but not so inspired as to go back to the beginning...
It is a beginning and could grow to be an interesting game. Goals (levels), obstacles, scheduled arrival of the balls, etc. would increase strategy and playability. Finally it needs better sounds. That being said, the interface and graphics are definitely functional and do not detract.
Wonderful! This game has instantly reduced my productivity... it is that good. However, it is difficult... you may need to play Chapter 1 first to get used to the mechanics... 5/5
There are many aspects of stonogra's games that are excellent: music, animation, fast but quality transition animations, and the menu system. After all of this work however, the fundamental games are very small with little replay value or leveling systems to give it more staying power. I really look forward to seeing stonogra teamed up with other groups that are clearly lacking his talent in presentation.
The level system is a very good idea. Being able to go back to previous levels to increase experience allows a novice gamer to eventually seriously level up. However, the lack of permanent upgrades (upgrades that hold between levels) causes the beginning of every level to be a long boring process of holding off enemies and upgrading. 3/5
Excellent and enjoyable game with a nice length. Main trick to win: be very aggressive, using drag select to highlight multiple units. As others have said, let the computer opponent work on gray items (after you grab a couple of small units) and then try to capture their larger units.
