need to know how many 'clues' are left, and there seems to not be an advantage to solving faster.

The distractions need to be lessened; when you get an achievement and a critical, you can't see a thing. And when you do that a lot with a laser gun, you die. Also, the camera motion needs to be adjusted, it's all over the place.

I have confirmed that Realist cheats: when he gets points for a multiple (two 5's) he rolls with only one 5 selected, giving him more opportunity for combos. This is happened every time.
