What's up with the difficulty jump? Game is pretty easy at first and than the level with laser guys + flying disks is like a difficulty cliff. Not really a good curvature at all.
Quite a good game. My biggest critique is that the penguin AI has a lot of trouble on certain levels. Biggest example I have seen thus far is level 28 - they have a major tendency to get stuck on the rocks and slowly starve to death. 4/5 :D
The Good: The majority of the levels were inventive and often amusing.
The Bad: Pixel hunting levels. Thankfully there are not too many here, but the few there are spoil the game slightly for me.
The Ugly: The final level is pretty much entirely defined by pixel hunting. There is not a whole lot of thought into it, just timing and placing your block in the perfect position. Not a fun way to leave the game, in my opinion. Challenging? Sure. Fun? Not really.
Overall I enjoyed this game but I feel obligated to give it only 3 out of 5 stars. It could easily be worth of 4/5, but it needed to have the so-called pixel hunting levels ironed out and replaced with more creative thinking levels.
@headacher: To an extent I actually agree with you. I am sure this game is quite enjoyable to the select group of people who are able to appreciate it. I would blame Kongregate for bringing all of us here and 'forcing' it upon us as a limited time quest requirement. This is not a game that the masses can realistically enjoy and I certainly do not.
I signed into Kongregate today with plans of completing a supposedly "easy" quest. I guess I won't be doing that now. I do not have a problem with a challenging game - but this game, and more specifically, the Ace system, is not challenging. It is sheer madness that involves hunting within a range of say 5 pixels at the most. Simply not fun and thus, I can't justify wasting one more minute even trying it.
As someone who has played all of the "Robot Wants..." games and loved them, I must say that this is, in my opinion, the least enjoyable of them all. It is still fun and I still took the time to complete it and collect all 10 claws, but I feel this game only deserves 3.5-4 stars, while the others easily got 4.5-5. I realize this game was released more than a year ago, so I shall save my usual review critique and simply say this: it was fun but could have been better.
Game has a lot of potential, but Emfinn's comment basically sums up my opinion. You should never be totally doomed in an avalanche game. The thing that should separate a good and bad score is how good you are at noticing the cracks in the danger (in this case, the mines), not dumb luck.
Good game overall. Story is compelling and sad, upgrades are well tuned, good difference of enemies, etc...I just feel that the last level takes the difficulty to a new tier and you never really experience anything similar to it beforehand. The concept is interesting, but the 'end' of it could be a beat or two slower and it would still be a challenge.
Great game. Unlike most games here on Kongregate, I had a desire to play this a few more times even after I had completed both badges. Surprisingly well balanced and the art is quite a nice reward for completing the game. My only critique is the lack of an obvious achievement page.
I agree with PowerOfWhy. I was disappointed to see that, by level 16, this once interesting puzzle game was now solely a matter of expert timing. In general the whole concept and art design is hilarious and refreshing. However, at the end of the day, I find myself unable to give this game a 5/5, because I feel it only delivers 2/3rd of itself and the rest is not the same game at all.
