theres actually some nice complexity to this, i think if you had some better art here and there the stuff you already have would look more intentional, and then this would be amazing. Like what they do in sexy commando and pyuu to fuku jaguar.
the music would only make sense if the ship was being piloted by an emo band. actually, making some graphical changes so the ship IS being piloted by an emo band might be easier than finding new music XD
... actually with all the phalic imagery and the fact that that last boss battle with the 2 bosses didn't make any sense (i just kept hitting the purple one and won the game)
