perfect example of how graphics and design can make it an entirely different game, even if the programming is prettymuch unchanged.
unfortunately this is the first example ive seen so far that didn't fail at it.
now if picking up the torches mean wider range of sight, and if the creepy midi music was replaced by something not-horrible, you MIGHT have a game here.
i like the timing mechanism for the combat sequences, but i think the graphics for the button signals could easily be improved so it doesn't make me want to quit the game immediately. i.e have the 'W' key signal paired with an up arrow and the 'A' signal paired with a left arrow, etc.
its a good tutoarial and ive been going back to it often, but you really should make the player sprite look different for originality's sake.. like even cover it over with a black dot.
