I am so glad that you can continue with your score lost, makes things alot more forgiving. Fun once you've gotten the controls sorted out. Once you egt used to it, it really is fun.
This game isn't hard. Never buy the nuke, only buy the shotgun for the start, if your lazer runs out, use the pistol on the Robots and Tanks. Never use Nukes. Always use Energy Cells. RIFLE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT WEAPON. Rifle, Lazer and Rockets will get you through the final level. Not hard.
klik klik kaboom has the best strategy. Pancor Jackhammer and Hollow Points, then just camp at your base, tapping the mouse. When it gets harder, hold down the mouse and gun down every enemy. Reload is fast, and you should have no problems. I got to 300 before I realised I had already done what I came to do.

Yeah, the fact you have to guess sometimes is annoying, but it is justified because it makes a picture, so your guesses can usually be swayed by what the pattern is doing.
On one of the last-ish levels, where there's about 6 bouncers, I just used the big concave to move down and to the left, onto the rotating thing, into the bucket. Easily bypassing the whole level.
