I think the whole reason as to why you have to move with the moving land is because you don't know how to code for it to carry you. The stickman needs animations. Funny how you had time to animate the coins but not the character. Maybe you just don't have the scripting knowledge?
I had something similar to this. I had an open project assignment and I could make a game relating to an event as well. Makes me regret I didn't do this. :(
