If you want to be technical, the virus is carried in the bacteria, the bacteria dont cause anything by themselves, they inject viruses or attach them to whatever they are going after, the viruses do the real work
I dont see the problem with "teaming" to be honest. Its a strategy game, trying to last to the end and make it to the top, and you'll do anything to accomplish it. So, remember, in the next world war, making alliances makes you a noob :P
