My thoughts (as azgara said) achivements should help ingame so say you kill 100 wolves you would get +10 damage when fighting wolves! (as lucas102 said) an inn would be greatto restore hp/sp say 100 coins for 10 minute of gain hp/sp or somthing like that! and possible potion shop in areas with monsters say your health is low so you could check the map for a potion shop and sprint there to quickly buy a potion so you don't have to die and do it all over again!
