Great flash mockup of Escape Velocity. Fun and easy to get used to. Definitely has TONS of potential in future updates. Couple that with an on-top-of-things developer and you have the makings of a fantastic game. 5/5 Terry S
Hopefully, this new review provides some more in depth suggestions for you to dwell upon while you attempt your next game, because I’m sure that you’ll try again. But maybe this time, you’ll consider these remarks and the remarks of others while you trudge away at your newest creation.
Oh and as a final helpful hint, I would recommend not aiming comments like this at your targeted audience:
i think it’s funny that all the bad comments are left by 10 year olds with no games of there own
Good luck in all your future endeavors,
Terry S
1/5
The soundtrack is entirely too short and annoying to repeat over and over. And this coming from a guy who has electronic/techno music as over half his music collection. The graphics are mediocre at best. There’s no depth or involvement in the graphics. (i.e. they don’t add to the gameplay in any way). The game design is shallow. It’s been done a billion times and this brings nothing new or interesting to the genre. The need to click a billion times in rapid succession is very bad from a developers standpoint because the end-user will usually develop a severe hand cramp in short order. Which is why keyboards are typically used by developers for key mashing games.
Which leads us to our final destination at this “gem” of a game you created, Metorite. It’s a game involving crosshairs shooting silhouettes of peeps that have been modified using the mosaic technique in photoshop. Lets read my review, shall we?:
Terrible. 1/5 Terry S
Brief huh? But it speaks volumes once you’ve actually played the game. The game is your standard shooter game. Click to kill. Seems simple enough. But this game has issues, many of them.
But I digress, so let;s get back to the reviewing. Your second game was Beat Box v1.0. I rated it a 3/5. Fairly kind rating actually. Here’s the comment I left:
Neat idea but you really need to work on the interface and the graphics. 3/5 ONLY because I makes the mad dope tunes. Terry S
As you can see, I could appreciate the attempt you made at the game. But seriously, it’s just a bunch of gray boxes that overlap and have NO DOCUMENTATION AT ALL. How is that a finished product? What would happen if you started up windows vista but nothing was labeled? If Wookies lived on Endor, you must acquit.
And therein lies your fatal flaw. People post up reviews that hurt your feelings (le sigh) and you immediately feel the need to attack back at said individuals. Why? You asked for their input. You asked them to play the game. They’re doing YOU a favor by leaving any feedback at all. Ever notice the rating to comment ratio? It’s typically about 1 comment for 10 ratings. So why should you lash out at these kind souls? I’m sure that now you’re thinking about it, it makes no sense huh?
I gave you an honest opinion with direct issues with the game. I even called out a bug for you to fix. While the last comment was a bit… colorful, I still feel it encapsulates my overall feeling for the game quite well.
See, you came onto Kongregate.com to allow your peers (teh internets peoples) to play and experience your games. Most of these people are just gamers looking for some entertainment. They aren’t CIO’s of powerful companies. They aren’t seasoned game coders looking to try out the newest flash features in an anonymous setting. They’re just gamers.
You decided to release a game to the public that even in your own opinion was rough and needed refinement.
Let’s start with your first game, Linear. I rated it a 1/5 and left you a constructive note:
“Laggy, glitchy, hard to click on buttons, bad game idea. You can click on next ball over and over to get more points. This game needs to be taken down, thrown in a wood chipper and fed to cattle as feed stock. 1/5 Terry S“
Honestly, it was. There’s very little in the way of graphics, the controls are difficult to use and the “physics” of the game are severely lacking. You made the comment that “this is my first game guys, be nice”.
In addition, I don’t claim to be a game designer. In fact, I’ve never released any of my flash creations, outside of the standard webpage or two, I did back when Flash 3 first came out. But you seem to hold my non-developer status as a badge of sub-standardism. Interesting.
Now, I’m not quite sure which comment ticked you off, but I’m guessing the brief one was the nail in the coffin, so here I am, in the comments section of said game responding to you in a public manner because I feel its both necessary and responsible of us to air out both our opinions where others can read them. This will hopefully leave all more learned and wiser as a result.
After looking at your profile to figure out why someone would be attempting (miserably) to verbally assault me via whispering (I guess so others cant see? lol), I now see why you are so grumpy. You have uploaded 3 games to Kong and I have rated them as a 1, 1, and 3 stars each. I left constructive criticism on two, but left a brief comment on the most recent.
In my defense, I left the brief message because right as I was finishing up that “game”, my boss walked in (omg, Terry S isn’t 10! Umpossible!?!!1!1) so I just wrapped up the game into one nice neat adjective and left it at that.
Ok JB, lets get this out in the open. Recently, you left me a whisper on my profile stating the following:
if you can’t provide anyway to help me make my game so you would like it then there is no reason to comment on it. Besides you talk a lot of trash for someone who doesn’t make good games….oh wait you have no submissions…..so you can’t make games….. huh?
Ok, the controls blow. The graphics blow. The game play blows. I just dont think I can provide any constructive criticism for this game at all. 1/5 Terry S
It's a bit processor hungry making for a jerky game experience. The gameplay and such is just not that impressive. The graphics are fairly well done though. I'm debating between 1/5 and 3/5..... I'll give it a 3 for no real reason I guess. Terry S
