ok, here's how i got 600. made a really solid mostly symmetrical base until about 250, discarding any potentially problematic bricks. at this height there is almost no swaying. then, i started placing the symmetrical bricks (green, purple, blue) in a straight vertical line through the center. got to 638 before the whole thing fell apart.
