With each new wave, enemies should get harder to kill, after about two minutes of the attack guys, I couldn't be stopped unless I went off screen... then everything went to hell!
At about the 'mid point' where one of the researches hits 50 points more enemies start coming in each wave. Since weapon values and building health don't scale upwards I didn't want to punish playing slowly/cautiously by making it harder over time. if you use turrets, you should be able to keep the base safe with some walls and caltrops for a while depending on the difficulty level.
