It was an interesting schism. I like some of the facets of the Russian Orthodox Church; to wit, less focus on virginity (which is of dubious value religiously, but feeds into certain ethnic tradition…

More on joy than the catholics, who have a constant almighty guilt trip laying on them. In the end, it’s what you do with it,
As far as moral decline… If you look back at the writings of the people who write about such things as moral decline, morality has been going downhill since at least the time of Hesiod. I personally think it involves an inability to cope with change, myself. I’m sure when I get old and crusty I’ll be croaking out how morality is in decline these days, kids of MY generation would never get up to what kids of whatever generation it is then get up to. (That’s mostly a function of human memory being somewhat lacking, really. We don’t REMEMBER getting up to that kind of mischief. )
