As the "board" guy implies, you will automatically align yourself through the portal if you don't use the WASD controls. This is helpful in the Jump Levels. Just shoot and let go.

I also would like to give thanks to a walkthrough that saved me from guessing for hours in where the 3 hidden doors were.. Hidden door-ception
