Karfolian, try taking out the guy on the tank before aiming for the lower part. Make sure you defend when the cannon charges, or have autolife up, because the character it shoots is likely to die. Always have barrier and protect up as well. If the situation is getting grim and you're stuck just healing and getting shot, switch to blood sword so Matt can heal himself without wasting a turn until you get back on your feet.

Cool game. The idea of being forced to melee doesn't please me much though. I mean, it's not that I can't kill things with spells - on the contrary, I kill a lot with them (playing a char with mainly magic, on insane), but not getting multikills with spells and watching my bonus exp at 10 at the end of the round is disappointing... 4/5.

acidraid39: slow time, lightning and shortshield. Charge lightning up as you head towards the boss, when you get to him activate slow time and pulverize him with shortshield from inside.
What I did for 58 was trade the BFG for the (believe it or not) spiraller. I just kept firing the spiraller, shooting lightning whenever it was ready, and saving shortshield for tight spots. Since I didn't have to aim, I could focus on dodging everything, and when I couldn't dodge, I just activated shortshield. Tried with BFG, failed, and did it in one go with the spiraller.
Funny that you beat the game in less than 5 minutes, squidward568, considering that at later levels, just two waves equal that amount of time, and more.
