I have the desire to play this game more but the energy system is forcing me to stop, and I don't want to pay. So this is it for me in this game, shame cause I actually enjoyed it while energy lasted. Regeneration is also way to slow.
SwiftL4, than you are doing something wrong. I maxout (stars and ship upgrades) on all three of my Ships of the Line and destroyed Dutchman first try. He only managed to destroy one of my ships by the time he was done.
Also using Firefox and when I run the game I get an error popup saying that an error occurred running Unity. The error was "Permission denied to access property "toString".
If you maxed out on one technology you shouldn't be able to get those as 'loot' again. Kinda pointless and makes it harder to max out on others if you are constantly getting the ones you already have.
I managed to finish the game even though it's glitched like hell. The hardest thing was an issue I was having with random double clicking (not my mouse issue I tried two actually).
Had to restart the game a few times to see what I needed at which map so that I only pick up the things that I actually need at that time.
