4. The way things work in the real world that Xix lives in is: people expect money for a service. Hosting, such as that that this game uses - yes, outside of Kongregate - costs money. This is not hosted at Google or other free providers; It is hosted on Xix's site. Chances are that is because it CANNOT be hosted on a free provider and supply you with any form of suitable gaming experience. And if it were hosted by Google or whatnot, Xix would need to turn over some of his rights to Google, including revenue stream collection. Google uses ads itself - it's ad service is quite well known in the industry. Google uses those ads to offset the costs. Xix is also within his rights to offset costs, despite not being a large corporation.
Bottom line: You're wrong, an author is perfectly within his _rights_ to offer advertising in a game. Being polite will not pay your rent.
John: you are missing several points here.
1. Ebaums and similar 'leaches' are known as leaches BECAUSE they host the author's work, collect revenues from ads, and do NOT pay the author. A CENT.
2. This is called ROBBERY.
3. You are, perhaps without knowing it, stating that ROBBERY, or THIEVERY, is perfectly acceptable, as the author gets something out of it - that is: free publicity. Not money, not a job offer, not anything that could pay the rent or the bills.
darkane: yes, and one of the reasons it was chosen was that it was something that everyone knows, and would be comfortable with. Something very important when introducing folks to something new - like using a wierd plastic thing tethered to the computer.
Consider making it multi-user, taking out the 'erase' and having it 'erase' every 2minutes or something, and save the last 5-6 pictures for viewing.
Then folks can 'collaborate' on a pic.
Then build some 'game' elements in from there, like maybe suggesting a thing, and allowing folks to give points for coming closest over a 8 hour period.
Think about expanding it a bit, in other words.
It rules, I play daily. Have for months. Glad it's here.
The people who complain, I find them hilarious. "zomg I can't figure out how to play solitaire!" - folks, there's a REASON it's in every copy of Windows. It's because EVERYONE knows how to play. If you don't, ask your MOM.
