Y'know, I can just see LordKaT doing this.
For the first ten floors, advance the screen upward as much as possible. After that, you want to be more laid-back. Wait a minute before advancing and avoid the enemies at all costs. Nine times out of ten those little pogo things will kill you. Bank your gems starting at F15, you jump up two floors and the level starts over, making it much easier to continue.
Bleh.

Since so many people are stressing out about bourgeoisie, there is one simple tip:
Buy everything except the rabbit's foot, rain dance, phoenix pendant, and homing beacon upgrades.
I got it on my first try after this.
