There is a way to see if theres an active event. When the Santas Workshop was going on, near the Workshop, Dynasty, Event tabs was Santas Workshop : *Insert time until ends*
@gam3fan You may have figured this out, but after each expedition you get something. Crafting lore, diamonds, basic packs, etc. If you open a pack and get the same blueprint as you already have, you can merge it with that one. (Open basic pack, get boots or something, merge boots with boots). Merging can only work if the blueprints are the same evolution and lvl.

This game isnt P2W. This game keeps the balance (f2p-G-p2w) by adding lockboxes which you can unlock after playing just a small bit. The events are one more thing which keeps the balance. You CANT have a bigger variety of guns with spending money. You literally cant. Oh and about the perm thing,lockboxes sometimes do give you perm guns which are mostly better then the buy/rent guns.
