I think the concept is a good one, but it definitely could use a few things:
1) For sure it needs WASD controls, since for a lot of people arrow keys are uncomfortable or oddly placed.
2) Having some movement lag is good, but I think it's maybe a little much as it is. It takes so long to react that you're not sure how much to push, but by the time you realize you gone too hard it's usually not possible to correct.
3) Some sort of health bar and health loss notification would be great. I know if I hit things it hurts me, but right now I can't tell if I need to surface or if I'm okay to go on a little while.
4) It needs some polishing visually, not huge things, but maybe some more details in-play and some touch-ups on the menu screen.
Thanks for the useful feedback, it's appreciated. 1) I'll add WASD controls later today if I get chance. 2) How much did you upgrade the speed option? As you upgrade it, not only do you get faster, but the controls respond quicker and the friction is increased so you stop quicker too. I will look at tweaking it though. 3) There is an alarm that appears in the bottom-right of the screen as your health drops. I'll think of other ways to make it clearer. Maybe a health bar. 4) I'm working on making the levels more visually interesting by adding scenery (plants etc.) I'll see what else I can do. Cheers.

I'm enjoying the additions so far! I didn't realize before that the speed upgrade helped with control, so I only took it to level 2 (haha), but I see now why the movement starts as it does. I also agree that the ability to have or upgrade to side grabbers/bigger grabbers would be awesome! Lastly, an autosave feature would be great, since it's easy to forget to save and navigate away or exit the page.
Descriptions for the upgrades would be a good idea then. I should probably call the 'Movement Speed' upgrade simply 'Movement'. As for the grabber, I've looked into it, and adding upgrades for the grabber would actually be quite a lot of work (as I didn't implement it with an upgrade in mind), but I'll see what I can do. There was an autosave feature but it was being a little temperamental for some reason. It's on my list of things to fix. Thanks.

I'm missing whatever's between Snake(turquoise) and Squid(purple). What is it and where is it found?

Annoying when a tiny fish or worm decides to dive bomb you out of nowhere and sap all your health instantly.
