Description
The Wizard is a quirky, turn-based dungeon puzzler with an unique spell casting system. You play as the exceptionally handsome but uneducated wizard Kevin, whose good looks have just been stolen. The pursuit of the mysterious thief leads you down to the dangerous dungeons underneath the wizard academy. There you’ll encounter mythical monsters, discover powerful spell gestures and improve your newfound abilities with the experience you gain to catch the thief and reclaim your beautiful face.
How to Play
The game is optimised for mouse and touch controls, which will be introduced in the tutorial. It also supports keyboard and on Chrome XBox Controllers. The key bindings can be viewed by pushing H on the keyboard or Back on an XBox controller.
Developer Updates
Hey there!
It’s been a while, but it looks like a few people still enjoy The Wizard here! That is just awesome! Thank you all!
The Wizard was the first (somewhat) commercial game we published as Hypnotic Owl. Originally we tried to sell licenses to websites to allow them to host it (and even managed to sell one to ABC!). After that we tried running Ads and uploaded the game to Newgrounds, Konregate and Armor Games to get our next project funded. But eventually we found that it just wasn’t worth it to befoul our beloved Wizard with ugly advertisements to make a couple of pennies every month.
Instead we worked on securing funding to make a more fully fledged version of The Wizard to release on Steam. And that actually worked out! You probably have seen that annoying little banner we used to have in the game telling you about it. What we didn’t really communicate very well, at least here, was that it’s actually already finished and it’s called Kevin’s Path to Wizdom! We went through a few iterations on the name, because you simply couldn’t find the game on Steam with that name. Too many games with Wizard in the name. You could literally type the complete name in the Steam search bar and would not see our game. In comparison there wasn’t a single game with “Kevin” in the name on Steam. That’s why we landed on that one.
So, yeah, if you haven’t already, go check out Kevin’s Path to Wizdom on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1275600/Kevins_Path_to_Wizdom ! It’s got additional levels, new mechanics (mana for example), lots of game modes and settings, a remastered and expanded soundtrack and a complete graphical overhaul while still keeping the original sprites in tact. We hope you’ll like it as much if not more than the original! But if you don’t, no worries, the OG Wizard is still here for you for free.

For those stuck in the maze: Freeze will navigate around (multiple) corners. So will shock. Try freezing someone around the corner(s) and while they're frozen or slowed, you should get 3 free whacks on them before they can reach you

an undo button would be nice as it is easy to accidentally move or fire sometimes.
That's true! We've thought about adding this, but it's a lot of work and we weren't sure if people would like the game enough to make it worth adding. So this might still be added ;)

This game is such an unique and beautiful looking dungeon crawler. I really love the spell system and that these spells offer you many different tactics to beat the levels. To make it short: this is a game worth playing! Tip: Begin the game with Novice difficulty, because the game gets challenging pretty fast. 5/5

5/5. Just finished it and absolutely loved it. The story line, the unique take on spell casting, the strategy and the fights. I only came across one bug, the mummy spell book one, which makes me really curious what spell I missed out on. But the game was good enough to keep its 5 score.
The bug should be fixed now! :D

I would like to have some in-level ceckpoints. I hate to start over because of making a wrong click!
