Description

This is a prototype for my upcoming game Dexterous.

Inspired by Metroidvania game-play, this game exists in the hopes to recreate the classic joy Metroid and Castlevania SOTN gave all of us so long ago. Play this prototype and give any feedback you can. Do the controls feel to sluggish? Dose the character respond correctly? Is it fun? Any kind of feedback is helpful.

Check back for frequent updates.

This is not what the final game will look like.

NOTE: TALKING TO THE NPC MAY NOT WORK

How to Play

Arrow Keys to Move
Space Bar to Jump
"Z" key to interact
"X" and "C" keys to switch Tools

Also compatable with a Gamepad Controler

And the game instantly failed before it had even loaded by being in a window inside a window which generally means the game is hosted elsewhere.

Well done for putting out your game and being open to criticism. I know how nerve wracking that can be, especially when the game doesn't feel 'ready'. I hope this feedback helps.

The movement controls felt responsive and I liked that I could move the screen slightly up or down with the up/down arrow keys.

The "Z" key froze my game every time I tried to interact with the NPC
(I don't like breaking a game… unintentionally)

I didn't need to use any of my tools, nor was there any incentive to learn HOW to do it. Also, the tool menu doesn't give any visual cue's telling us which tools/items we have or don't have.

Personally, I'd prefer to hold down the jump button to stay afloat instead of mashing it, especially if there's going to be extended water areas later on. that could just be me though.

Finally, I appreciated the frequent checkpoints that minimised backtracking

Good luck :)
