Flash End-of-Life, Ruffle Integration!
This game runs on Adobe Flash. Effective Jan. 2021, Adobe began blocking its flash player's use everywhere. Kongregate is now partnering with Ruffle to make some of our Flash content playable again. Mabe you could add a health bar for the enemies and not make them 1 shot kill cos that's a bit too easy. A background would be nice cos black is a bit boring and some more upgrades would be good. Other than that it's a good game for a school project.

Also the attack type is a bit too simple and it could use some more types of enemy spaceships. It should be a bit harder aswell.

you need to make the UI not look so shitty - maybe add some ship settings (i,e you have 100 points, apply them to shields, movement speed or 2x/3x wep damage, etc) before each game - have some planets and stars floating around in the background - maybe even add a take-off/landing sequence for that certain je ne sais quoi.
