I've found that 6 catapults just annihilate everything, then backed with half a dozen dwarves to serve as meat shields.

i spent like 10 turns on killing 3 goblins at the mine, with an army of 8 units. all i hit was just 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 .....

I have finished the game with dwarfs and have failed with elves. Some tips:
always reload when you lose a army.
Dont upgrade bad units.
Use at lease 2 catapuls. Light cavalry sucks. Upgrade iniative of the general as high as possible.
And invest in elite soldiers only.
Generally its better to defend then attack. just put your soldiers in the front of the enemy if you cant attack their back and let them attack.
All i think should be improved was allready written by several people.
I still think this is one of the best flash games of this site.
I had to play the goblin mine mission about 20 times...that round limit is soooo hard. it is almost impossible to kill all the units on the map in that time (what i always try).
The human hero is to weak in my opinion.

Quindor, armor kicks in there aswell. I have another question though, Heavy and elite chivalry does heavy damage, do they cause 3x damage against cities aswell?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Maybe a simpler way to make damage rules more clear would be to introduce a minimum damage clause: as you said Ageofgames, "Catapult Damage is X3 against cities, castles etc.". So if my catapult has 6-21 damage, when I attack a city I expect to do at least 6x3=18 damage, or a clean miss. That would make damage much more understandable.
I also see there is a console where dice results are shown; very good but you need to scroll the console text to read all the needed messages (e.g. in a melee duel the last 3 messages overwrite the previous 9). Please add a scrollbar!

As near as I can tell, the only real difficulty upgrade in higher levels is that enemies consistantly one shot my units. Not really all that fun.

Yeah I agree with most people that there criticals etc + 1 point hits ruin the game. I sit there spamming 1 point hits for 3 straight turns and eventually one of my guys gets a critical of some sort and does either 30-50 damage or sometimes 100+ damage. Seriously that 100x improvement on damage is just silly. My guys are generally upgraded well and its rare that I see anyone do consistently over 1. I really like the game but it would be a lot better if I wasn't just sitting their waiting for a critical to finally occur so I can destroy something. Difficulty was about right, I beat the game with the human with a few failed missions. You should be able to select the tutorial missions individually as I had a few questions about the special abilities (about frequency of use etc.) and it's a pain to have to play through basic infantry lessons.

i really like this game i played it too many times already :S with human dwarf and elf .. i did all the war academy :S .. i tried tried tried .. i don0t think this game is lucky but i think i found the only game i can't win .. i really don't understand how in a turn i can loose all my army with pore criticals :S may be im cursed :S and i'm talking about the 5th 6th 7th mission always i really don't know whut else to do :S it's not like boring it just pissed me off first i bought like 6 catapults upgraded all i could bowman everything and still can't do any difference :S i mean really i tried everything may be its not my game ..

To make this game awesome it would be enough to remove critical strikes and 1-damage strikes to even the odds, otherwise it is pointless to spend money on improving your units when a lucky goblin can slash them in a single strike.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
This game has great graphics and nice strategic features, however I'm stopping playing it out of frustration because of the importance of luck based strikes: all my units rain attacks on a single enemy causing 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 damages, then he strikes back in 2 consecutive turns, makes 2 criticals in a row and kills instantly 2 of my elite infantry! This damn SUCKS!

You can orient your soldiers whenplacing them, press the red arrows on the ground. Are the one hit spells for the elf general supposed to have unlimited range? And for the sequel, a magic user unit (besides the elf general) that could be upgraded to heal or damage would really help.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Also, the archers' range should be limited in rough terrain and forests, because when you have to be in the enemies face to do a ranged attack, that kind of makes ranged units useless...
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
You should take out the random turns. It would be easier if you went, your opponent went, etc... Right now, It's completely pointless to upgrade your initiative because even if you get two turns in a row, that means your opponent gets two turns in a row.

I really want an option to tel my people to attack from behind, there is just no option to tell them to go around the guy and stab him in the back.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Arrrggggh. Bugging out (freeze) consistently when using a ranged charge attack with a cavalry unit... In the camp of people looking for longer campaigns (earlier options to take splits in the campaign trail?). All around pretty solid. Ranged crits for elite goblin archers are frrrrrustrating. GG

I agree with Amleida. You need to add tooltips to the abilities so the player knows what they will do when used. 4/5 (for now)

Ageofgames, thanks for writing such info here. I skipped tutorial after playing 3-4 of it. First levels can be luck based if someone refuses to buy new units and instead upgrade whatever they have. That's their gamble anyway. And I really wonder who would attack from Front while they can attack from behind, forget the extra damage but there won't be a counter-attack. And also, "Attack repulsed" message is missing. And we want a longer campaign!

I think it's a great game. There are a few glitches as others have stated here. For me, the scroll will get stuck, but I found if you press the opposite direction like hold 2 arrows at once, it usually unsticks. Other than that, a great overall game, wish there were other ones out there like it and can't wait for a revamped sequel! 5 of 5

i don't understand all the luck complaints. As long as you keep maxing out your players armor and weapons and spells from the beginning you shouldn't even have a dead army for the first cycle. Do not max out the number of armies early on. The elven general is a good starter since it has a big strike spell that kills with 1 hit early on. Use spells, bowman, catapults before infantry. Don't waste too much money on cavalry.
This game is 10 times better than the other top rated rpg/adventure games. Not to easy not so hard you can't figure out how to play it.

Hi
There are several rules that are not clear to all the players for sure (something is explained in the tutorial).
Anyway consider that:
Catapult Damage is X3 against cities, castles etc.
Attack from the Back: Damage X2
Territories and Entrench affects the attack and defense % and so also the special hits.
Special Hits:
Magistral (1/10 of the attack %)
Critical (1/20 of the attack %)
Supercritical (only 01 on the d100 dice).
The damage range is variable but I belive that a "bad player" with only luck can't finish the game, so the game can't be judged only "luck based".
Anyway, because we can make always a better game we're thinking about a clearear system in wich the player can show the estimated result of every attack.
Thanks again for all your feedback!

the times when ur attacks do no damage is when the opponent blocks them its not a bug
i like the game but some of the lucky hits are a bit too well......lucky but i like the game so 5/5 and favourite :D

So, um...congratulations on taking the top five slots in the monthly contest...at once. I'm not accusing you (I'm guessing there's some kind of database error going on at the Kong end somewhere), I just thought it would be amusing to point out.

I think this game is good, but it needs a few improvements. To sum it all up: Tooltips are needed for abilities and stats, the critical chances have to be lowered (the game is too luck based as it is now) as the opponent army often has more units and thus a higher crit chance in total it seems, the computer takes too long to think through it's strategy. Otherwise, a pretty good and definitely addicitive game :)

Game has locked up on me twice on the Jhalektur level in the same way as mrmillsy. Not gonna try again till its fixed. I also agree with others that the game is too luck-based. When crits can one-shot and most attacks only do 1-2 points of dmg, there is a serious issue. There is a good base here, but needs improvement.

wow supercrit.... 140 from my white horse thingy :-P still think this game is ok but apart from the fact that it is purely all luck..... i like it when theres some skill involved.... my new rating.... 3.5/5

Good game, but some improvements are needed.
1 - Initiative/Turn order needs to be clearer; often my opponent goes three time in a row, or more, before I go.
2 - The status window needs to scroll up so I can see stuff that flies by during the opponents turn.
3 - Tooltips over actions and special ability need to actually tell you what impact they have to the game.
4 - The update phase where you can purchase and upgrade units needs to occur before I select the next encounter in the campaign so that I can upgrade and save (so I don't have to remember what I wanted to do to each of my units).

This game has great potential.
The main problem with the game is the Wild range of critical damage and minimum damage that seems totally random. This needs to be toned down and more in line with each units stats.
It would be nice if there were more choices on the map as to who you attack.

I would like to like this game, but aside from the heavy luck factor, my units reset to lvl ones after I re-load a game for some reason. 1/5.

All in all I like the game. It did crash on me in the middle of a level which was a bummer (game hung, interface still worked so I had to exit out and reload). But its very slickly presented and feature rich. Its a little bit too easy though (I played as the elf general). 4/5
