Under rating threshold (show) I just realized; the bigger forts serve no purpose other than to give you extra turret slots. With the smallest fort, you have complete protection against every single enemy in the game. Even with the largest blob, which is twice twice the size of the smallest fort, he just passes right by. So much for an form of urgency in upgrading your base...
