Near the end of the game, the best way to make money/food is to go to war, but the massive numbers needed to successfully win a country is just too high. You throw 10x the number of people in the country you're attacking, and still nearly all of your guys die. I'd love it if there was an upgrade to increase the soldiers' defenses.

I like this game because it's not obvious what you're supposed to do.. it's fun to figure out how to balance your production after each decision you make. Great job! Can't wait to see this develop

Suggestion: a war toggle to send army only if barracks is full and with max weapons (avoid sending a half army unequipped)

Love this game 'till near the end. A large annoyance is the genes. They provide MASSIVE bonuses later in the game and can be respeced for free. So, it's most efficient to, say, pump all of your genes into reduced cost for buildings before buying a building, or dump all of your genes into soldier/weapon attack before going to war. This is kinda a pain in the ass because you have to type in 0 for the one currently maxed out, and type in the max amount for the next gene you want maxed. A big creature comfort would be adding a button for each gene that sets all other genes to 0 and maxes out that gene.

@ehat happened:
Mass starvation because West countries had its food reduces by a lot.
@customizing people:
Customizing people refers to the genes that you can use for your next game I think. In most of these idle games you can only spend points at the start of the next game. In this one you can keep shuffling. Put all in efficiency to buy barracks and then swap all points to aggressive for example.

Maybe the ability to trade some of my 500 million tools and cars to these people i keep invading for more food would be more beneficial to both of us

For a country who once had 1 billion population, and lost 99.9999% of its people in a war, it takes 3000 years for it to recover.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
As I just fight a total war, where I use ALL the pop (which is a little bit less than 1 billion) including those who were in the farm, so now my pop dramatically dropped and only 1000 people remains. My culture almost restarted, so I think it would be great if I can see the history of my population as a graph.

@themistoklis there was an update changing the "west" income as well as reseting the current population.
@Carlyndra after you soft reset you use genes to customize your people, but wait for a few hundred of them irst.
@Hugomanen later the rewards get far more than you will ever need. conquest rewards start low, but later 99,99% of your income will be from conquest. true for all but the "west" now

The population growth is too small for a realistic game, e.g. if you have 1 million population, you should have at least 400k of each gender, and if only 10% of that gender were making babies, the population growth would be around 40k+, instead of about 1k. This makes the game dull when you go to war with 2 million soldiers, battle and lose them all (eventually), and then you either play fast for 1000+ years or wait a few days before being able to go to war again, because your population of a few thousand is only capable of producing 10 babies a year. Furthermore, this assumes that a couple only have 1 child, when the replacement rate of any population is 2.2 (geography). Which is my final point, seeming as we are the ruling power in this game, surely we could encourage the couples in the game to have more or less babies so we could indirectly influence the birth rate to increase the population growth, and then decrease the population growth when the population becomes too big.

North still gives laughably few weapons. 7k weapons with millions of defenders. At 100mil weapons to conquer the region it takes approx 14k years to turn a profit.

I reached 100 million population, but I'm unsure of where I go to "start customizing my people"? Can anyone offer some insight, please?

If you want to start again but with loads of money, wait until you have ABSOLUTELY LOADS and then buy the Worker Management upgrade and set your farms to 10%. Then quickly set it back to 100%. +1 to keep this comment alive.

I had the game closed and when i opened it in fast forward all my people died to 0 from starvation and relived again. I remembered my population had enough people for every job and i had some millions of unemployers. My farm was producing only 20% (with full workers) of the total produced food while the rest was coming from war. After population came back to its size farm ( with full workers) was producing 90% of total food production. What happened? Starvation reduced food from war? I had reached more than 2 billion people and now i have max arroud million after i made some upgrades to farm.

make it to where ALL WOMEN WORK TOO!
i have to have around 50% of my population on farms, and i cant have them on nothing else, and what is 50% of my population? BOYS!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
it has nothing to do with fast play - most likely you ran out of food and had too many ppl so massive starvation set in their mood dropped to zero so no more kids are born - even if they have food - until the mood returns to normal it stays that way.
and population fluctuation is normal, you can experiment around with placing your genes, i once adjusted my genes so i hadno people above the age of 30. sounds evil but it was a stable society and produced genes faster than normal. right now i have around 31 septillion food but i changed death rate so i only have a population thats a fraction of what i can support - far more tools & cars for building - but still too expensive

Update: I realize what's going on now - There's a rounding error with the gene upgrades. It will say you have, say, 1 gene, but you actually only have 0.9 and it won't let you spend 1.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
How do we know what the gene upgrades cost? I have 1 gene, and entered "1" in a box, and it says "You don't have that many genes"
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Is it just me or is the "Play fast" thing broken? I just lost 1.5billion (out of 1.8) of my population when doing 28years of fast playing.

It might be a bit... Brutal, but I'd replace "Ascension" with something like "Mass extinction event". It makes sense - you lose all your infrastructure, all you technology, almost all of your population, but the few that do survive come out naturally stronger.

Is it a bug when i send my army to war with attack of 6m and if i don't win this next time my attack is around half of that, BUT my soldiers and weapons count is exactly the same?

It seems to be impossible to meet demands for medicine without running short on some other resource (usually food). Once you buy medicine factory, demand for food shoots up followed by a increase in population growth (which seems backwards). The population growth then results in even greater demand for medicine. No matter what I tried, I always ended up leaving medicine factory at or below 25% because above that is too unstable.

It seems that only men from 15 to 45 goes for war. While all men from 18 to 65 and 60% of women of their age is working, and barracks are normal place of work, i would expect the same age and sex distribution at work!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
All the complaints that medicine makes the population unstable... They just irk me. How should I put it... Lets see, we have a good tip right in the game for this.
Population fluctuation is NORMAL!!!
Sheesh, just read. It's not hard...

Personally, I find the early game progresses a bit too slowly. More specifically, too much time spent sitting and staring at number at the start until you first can afford tool maker. Basically just buy a farm, wait, buy another farm, wait, repeat until you have enough unemployed not farming and buy another woodcutter. Things move a bit better once you have the tool maker. Also found that medicine made my population nearly impossible to balance. Medicine would cause a population boom that would be unsustainable.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Need a option to buy larger batches of buildings and upgrades at one time, 10 at a times too slow.
Also, are we meant to just give up trying to get cars, tools and medicine later on? Even with level 248 tool production I'm only making 6.4 quadrillion tools and need 900 septendecillion, same deal with cars and medicine.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Don't know if it's intended or not, but a quicker way to buy is to click and then hold the ENTER key on your keyboard, nice little trick, please do not remove unless you're improving it.

turned out there are some more interesting things happening now. i tried my best to stay with minimum of Unemployed so i could get as many Research Centers as possible. At one point it simply got too hard as i didn't get anymore bonus beyond 3k Toolmakers - making it hard to keep up with the drastic costincrease for science. i got 3,6k tool makers and barely made 206 research buildings. With e+46 in smarter - it still is my one chokepoint. guess you have to do some balancing with worker upgrades / bonus for reaching x amount of buildings. so you get overall more tools cars and the like or decrease the cost. probably the first is a better option.
another thing that happened was, at one point i increased my army so much, compared to my overall population that all my males went to war and my people went extinct. back to 1000 people then have it happen all over. took me a while to grind through more west countries, for my population to multiply to fix it
Interesting points and sending all males to war is pretty tought :p
Many others have also said that research is now a choke points, let's wait for more oppinions and I will do some testing on my own in the meantime. Then will do update!
