Ok so far this game is nice, but something is missing... Upgrades! When you reach level 30 and above the black opponent appears and the only thing you need is to move fast or else you are out. Hope the next update will have an upgrades.

why cant you only send some of the ships from your planet? This way you and the enemy keep sending massive fleets between planets and the AI keeps running away from battles so you never really fight

This is a fantastic game with wonderful music and a smooth interface. The playability is great as well with multiple difficulties to choose from to challenge yourself. 5/5

of all the levels level 14 i cant beat while its on hard, they somehow seem to grow faster than i can even though i complete planets first

Black - when amazingly designed AI and level design isn't enough to make the player rage. Seriously though amazing AI. Great game 5/5 from me.

I started with a 2/5, now with those tweaks, it's an easy 5/5. I love it. I'd still appeciate to be able to control the ships between planets, but that's an extra at that point.

mission 23: if you jump onto the enemy's starting point, you could just annihilate each other, both at 0/0 population

I hate the 0.5 second delay between commanding your ships to go somewhere and them actually going anywhere. I know this is on purpose, but input lag is always a horrible thing, whether or not it was intentional.

Ok, just finished it. A very good game but it lacks something that the first game had, a story. Solarmax 1 story was about humans colonizing the moon, then Mars, a civil war, asteroid belt, discovering the first wormwhole, awakening the big motherships and finally defending the Earth in a big battle. Solarmax 2 story is about skirmish battle 1, skirmish battle 2, random battle 3, black things 1, more black things 2, black things 3, big white stuff. My humble advice is that you please bring the story back from the first game. All you have to do is add names to levels, like in the first game.

The revisions have greatly improved the game, while still short of the original, this is at least now worthy of 3/5 and I'm feeling genereous today so uping to a 4/5

Well, I have to give this developer a lot of credit. As previously mentioned, this is one of my favorite game genres. I found it very hard to play. The developer spent a good deal of effort polishing the game to make the mechanics flow much easier. For that, I must give him a lot of credit. The game is still on the difficult side due to the extreme advantage given to marginally larger forces. Overally, I find the game enjoyable, but difficult. I'm especially impressed by the developer's decision to reach out to me to ask me to try him game out again now that changes have been made.

The level design is good and the AI is actually really aggressive and smart, but I can't rate more than a 3/5 because of the slider. The slider is just not a good way to select how many units to send. Having to remember to mouse down to the bottom of the screen is distracting, not to mention the time you waste making sure you actually got the slider in the place you wanted it. Games like nano war, tentacle war, and phage wars (wow a lot of 'war' titles) as well as the original solarmax all had better systems.

Hi guys, thank you all for the feedback and for playing the game! I spent a lot of time on this game and I want it to be the best experience possible, so I'm working on a new version which will address the AI issues.
The reason the AI is so difficult now is because I designed it to be extremely aggressive. It will fight for it's life and never give up. It will leave losing battles and attack your vulnerable planets. but I promise, the AI doesn't cheat - it has exactly the same moves and resources that are available to you. I wanted to give the impression that they were an intelligent race fighting for survival.
However, I understand that this is making the game frustrating. I am working on adding difficulty settings so you can choose the best way to play. I will upload the new version soon!

We HAVE to be able to redirect our ships while they're flying, because it's impossible to follow the AI, plus it's really frustrating when opposing ships collide each other and then continue their way without any combat between them whatsoever. 2/5
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Now that the "Slider", didn't realize that's what it was, has been explained I'll increase to a 2/5, slider needs to be more obvious, and the AI still needs fixing.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I can't send less then 100% of my ships = fail all the time, as a planet that is devoid of ships takes forever to generate any for player but AI gets them insanely fast. 1/5 until bugs are fixed.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
It seems like the AI generates units faster than you do. So instead of having tough AI, we face cheating AI. Add to that the fact that the AI can send every generated unit to the front lines automatically, while we have to click and drag every time, plus the DELAY when moving troops, plus the fact that outnumbered troops are annihilated really quickly, plus the fiddly controls... Solarmax 1 is excellent. This is awful in comparison.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
There needs to be a way to select all planets at once. It's a little frustrating to drag your mouse all over the screen to collect them and then send them to the planet, when the AI is able to do it one the fly.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Ok, the new features help. But I fell like there's something I'm missing. Later levels I still seem to get slaughtered because the AI is able to steal your planets, which cripples your production capabilities, and then they just destroy you. I had a fleet of 200 ships, against 50, and still lost because they kept fleeing immediately and stealing my planets. I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong though.

I played the first Solarmax game and I loved it for the most part so I was pretty excited to play this one, that excitement was quickly replaced with a sense of disappointment and annoyance. You could probably remove the strategy tag from this game because there is very little of it, the AI pretty much always sends 100% of their ships from their planets and they run at the first sign of a bigger fleet heading their way so it becomes a matter of chasing the enemy down which is a test of your reaction speed half the time with the somewhat clunky controlls rather than your strategic skills. I can see how this game would be a ton better with a touchscreen. When a game is only difficult because of annoying reasons the game itself just becomes annoying to play. It has potential but as is I can't say I enjoy playing this game at all, I would rather play the original. If I could I would give this a 2.5/5 but since I can't I'm more inclined to give it a 2/5 than a 3/5.

wow, a developer who actually really cares about the gamers! thanks for adding the most wanted features so fast. two thumbs up, the game is so much better now.

One thing I forgot to say earlier: The slider is a good way to control your fleet better than most games let you, but (at least) for me it just isn't usable. It would be nice if you could change the default from 100% to whatever you wanted it to be.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
When I saw that there was a solarmax 2 I clicked on it immediately, but this is a huge disappointment. There are 3 main problems: the first is that I can't win if I only send 100% of my fleet at a time. 2. If I use the slider by the time I get it how I want the enemy has captured all the neutral planets(or at least built up so large of a fleet that I can't win. 3. I can't attack with multiple planets. This just doesn't feel or look like the original, which is one of the best games I have ever played.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
This genre is one of my favorites, but I am majorly disappointed with the implementation here. Just doesn't flow well.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Also, the lack of the ability to select multiple planets REALLy sucks. I have to click on each one, yet they can send ships continuously from all planets?
This is a HUGE step down from the first one.
Sorry about that, I've returned the ability to select multiple planets. You can also use the slider on the bottom or number keys 1 - 0 to split your forces. Please try the game again with these changes and let me know your feedback.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Yeah, the AI just runs away all the time, steals planets, and then slowly whittles me down even though my fleet is like 4 times their size, all because I can't maintain planets because my planets aren't building fleet ships to augment said fleet that's getting whittled down, and I can't leave ships behind (that I can tell yet).
Needs work, the first one was epic.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I have spent 5 minutes trying to kill the enemy on a level, but they just run away every time. That's kind of an annoying thing, and int he process (because I can't send half my fleet yet), I just lose planets the whole time because they can whittle me down with their 30 ship fleet, while my 120 ship fleet is too busy chasing them.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
nice game. but i think it needs some fine tuning: the slider is a nice option and I think it would be better if you could also control it with the keyboard (for example with A and D keys)
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The game lost its ability to send ships from multiple planets, lost the ability for dynamic movements, lost the great sense of command. You really need to go back to the original, and work out what made it a decent game, because you're missing it here.
