I really love this game! but in future updates is there going to be a way to give planets a 'set' trajectory so they don't inevitably crash into the sun ? or is there already a way to do this ? (im not 100% sure but i think that the planets in our solar system don't crash into the sun because of a sort of elastic effect that is caused by the gravity of the planet having the right ratio of weight to the gravitational pull of the sun) but you guys are probably astrophysicists so you'll probably tell me im wrong....Great game, has really progressed since the first time i played it.
Hey azteknologya, well as of SolaSim 4, pressing + or - (on you're keyboard) can alter your planets trajectory, but I realize its a bit un-intuitive, so in SolaSim 5 (almost ready for release) these abilities will be easier to use and you'll have more control over the planet.___________________Also gravity is the "elastic force" that keeps the planets in balance and as you said its about getting a ratio between the planets mass and velocity, and the suns mass. So technically you should be able to get a balance in SolaSim 4 (I can say this because I have found the right settings and posted them, you can find the settings in the 'UPDATE' section for this game)._________________ Thanks for making this game 1 of your favorites and thanks for your comment. Hope you check out Solasim 5 which will be release in the first week of 2013.

okay so SolaSim has got a few updates and stuff_______ including a rudimentary population system, a better GUI, rudimentary water implementation and better particle manipulation______. Its at a point where I'm thinking of releasing it. I wanted to add enemies and spawn points (or spawn zones as TheGamer308 suggested) but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm just wondering if I should release SolaSim 5 now and then continue working on the other stuff and post them as updates when I'm done with them.

you bastard you bastard you bastard! I had a double helix planetary 'dance' going on, and then your system just obliterated one of my planets >_<

YES!!!!! I got a binary of two green planets and a binary of two white planets, there is only one thing i can say awesome
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
wow while i was writing my last comment my 2 planets orbiting one another got a third party planet in the orbit as well, awesome!!!!! i don't know how that is possible, but is cool!!!!! unfortunately it only lasted one orbit around the sun then they crashed into one another :P

hey guys if you are wondering how to make a planet orbit another one then just make a planet, give it a moon then feed the moon until a planet vwala planets orbiting one another

For Sola sim id like to be able to put spawn zones down and set how many particles that can spawn at one time. For instance spawner A can only spawn 200 of its own particles and spawner b can only spawn 400 particles. The max particles for each spawner could be set by the player and placed in any location they choose. Also each spawner could have they own set of settings. Like spawner a could have a max spawn force of 3 while spawner B could have max spawn force Of -3. This would allow more creativity for the player and allow particles to collide in different areas and directions all at once!

I have a challenge for you people, i challenge someone to make a binary system (2 planets orbit each other) and have them orbit the sun. I have done it before but I lost the settings :( if you can take a pic it would be cool (ctrl + PrtSc) and then send it to me via email or any other way (email: Jason.vandermeijden@brightnewworlds.com)

i have the same settings as the game instruction had apart from my sun weight i put to 1, helps get an green orbit providing you use the + - keys to manipulate the orbit, a few of those on the go and if you zoom in and right click if you're lucky it gets a moon! or several as the case can be!
Cool, you're the first person here who has spoken about the orbit manipulation keys, finally!!! :D haha just watch out, if you make to0 many moons, the moons might merge and become a planet, leading to the destruction of both planets, trust me this sucks because you spend time crafting a perfect planet and then booo0m, its gone!

Took me a little while the usual 'oo what does this button do' attitude and its actually class once you have you're first planet orbiting, and a moon orbiting that! class game mate
Well thank you :D It takes a while to get to know what everything does, as you said, but it's real fun once you know the tool. Thanks for the comment :)... it'd be cool to get to hear some of the things that happen to you..... Annnd maybe if people *LIKE* your comment enough you could share your settings? Thanks for giving SolaSim a chance and thanks for the comment it's always great to read comments like that!!

youkyou if your planet goes into the blue or white then it is a gas giant but becarefull because that is close to being lost in space
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
has anyone had all the planets in one solar system before like red yellow green blue and white ate the same time cuz that would be awesome

I found out what the acceracy does, it is where they spawn, the higher the farther they can spawn from the mouse. So I would not recommend 0 partical accuracy.
yess. this is true. its like a paint brush in microsofts Paint... the bigger the paint brush the bigger the area that gets painted, same with the spawn accuracy, the bigger the "spawn accuracy" the bigger the area that will be spawned in. this allows for randomness :D
here are some from Youkyou: ______
Time scale: 0.5 ______
Music volume: 0 ______
Sun weight: 5 ______
Sun size: 0.1 ______
Partical spawn accercacy: 0 ______
Max partical spawn weight: 3.631282 ______
Min partical spawn weight: 3.099658 ______
Max spawn force : 2.737983 ______
Min spawn force : 1.72793 ______
Manipultion force: 2E+08 ______
Gravity Visualiztion: 0.5* ______ Like this comment if they work well

damn getting the green line behind the planet is hard i don't know why but mine was green for a couple of full orbits but then the started to go red
but i like the struggle thanx brightnewworlds

I made a good sight, I caught a partical while trying to see if That would be a good orbit and turned it in a view. I will give the settings I got to BrightNewWorlds. After I save the settings.

I had a little fun today, i played through the older solasims' (you can also have a look at how solasim evolved by going to my profile and cheking the other versions of solasim) and I can't believe how much SolaSim has grown, just want to thank all the people who have contributed to the growth of SolaSim with out you guys and girls solasim would still look like this: http://www.kongregate.com/games/BrightNewWorlds/solasim

i think thisgame has a huge amount of potential just make the settings more "friendly" maybe throw in aliens and make the graphics a bit more polished it is a great idea it just needs a good bit of refineing

This Is fun game man thanks! but anyway I think I found a bug. Because I saved my settings for this game so I could try some different combinations with it later. However, It didn't seem like the settings I used early, mostly because the particles kept flying out of the system and not forming planets like they did earlier. So I tried changing up the settings to fix it, but it still flings my particles out of the system. I even tried the setting you suggested.
Okay I see the bug, sorry I will fix the bug and post an update as soon as possible
*Edit: Okay I fixed this problem if any one notices the problem again post a comment. thanks thegamer308 for your bug report

Needs better instructions, perhaps a decent tutorial, otherwise it is just sit there and hold right click and hope something happens.
I like your idea, i was thinking about making a wikki page or starting a forum for this game. but I don't know if i have the time to maintain the tutorial and I'm not sure how to start a wikki/forum, if anyone wants to make something like that, please talk to me, maybe we can work together. :D I'm trying in the mean time to answer all your questions in the comment section.
"Weight" is the starting weight of the particles, weight is a factor in the obit mechanics as well as in the planet type mechanics. "force" is the starting speed the particles are spawned at, with out enough speed the particles will be sucked into the sun and with too much speed the particles will be shot out of the solar system. "min/Max" is the clamp , it allows for randomness, each particle spawned will use a random value between the given min and max. Hope this answered your question :D thanks for giving SolaSim 4.0 a go

when my planet was orbiting the sun it was a red planet you know like mars but then when it was launched of track and it changed it went into a earthy planet then into a gas planet and then it went into planet like Pluto and then it left the star system i rate that awesome
sorry, please read my reply to KurtKrieg's messsage hopefully this will help you. Please give solasim a chance, you'll soon learn how to use it, and when you do I'm sure you'll have fun

Yes, this game is designed for Unity which does not support my computer's Operating System, and while I realize there do exist work-arounds for Linux users it is quite simply something I refuse to do, if a platform does not support Linux that means I can not use it.
Okay in unity 4.0 i have the ability to build a linux version but its wont work on the web so if you still wanna give it a go, message me your email address and I'll send you a linux version application for your desktop. Sorry for the complication but I have no control on which operating systems can use the unity webplayer

To make a moon just get a planet and spam particals around the planet, soon 1 partical might get stuck in orbit with the moon.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I gave one of my planets a moon, it was cool untell the planet went close to the sun and the moon was flung out of its orbit on the planet, then it came back and the planet ate it, AWESOME!
Wowie you got a moon :) It didn't take an experienced SolaSim player like you long to figure that out at all :D. Have u tried out the new orbit manipulation ability? just remember to bring up the "particle manipulation force"

how long will life be on planets, do i have to get a second life planet for aliens too or they just came out of nowhere when theres 1 life planet

Following up Kurt's statement, there are also technically no Kepler Laws exhibited as there is no possibility of orbit.
The default settings don't make solar systems, part of the fun is to setup your settings in order to make a stable solar-system... trust me this is possible. try again, for example if the particles are falling into the sun, try lowering the weight of the sun and/or increase the speed of the max and min spawning force. Hope this helps you. maybe if you find out a good balance of setting you could post them up as a comment in order to help others out, and if you can't find a balance personal message me and i'll give you some settings that worked for me, I wouldn't wanna ruin the fun for others. hope this helps you out
