This should totally be a multiplayer game! You could be able to make clans and trade items with other players. Or kill them for loot...

Ways to make to more realistic: Add dogs you can get in your team, let more than 1 person be a companion, make more peaple in the city that will be your compainion, be able to make your own safehouse, and finally, add special zombies (tanks, suiciders,spitters) I think that would be cool.

tip:dont give survivors melee weapons coz they will charge into zombies and ultimately kill themselves!Give them a long ranged weapon to fight. well cool game!5/5
