Hello! I highly reccomend for first-players next tactic:
1. Take "Storm-Trooper" as hero.
2. Take upgrade "Explosion-head bullet" (in top-left corner through "Bonus Magnet"). It takes 4 upgrade points.
3. Take upgrade "Battle Droid" (go down through "Full-metal bullets"). You need additional 7 upgrade points (totally 11).
4. From upgrade "Explosion-head bullet" go to upgrade "Battle Frenzy". You need additional 5 upgrade points (totally 16).
5. I think You will be immortal!
