Yep, you're right. It uses a shared object and then submit these stats to the Kon API...
Where can I find more? (I want to see some code examples as how to save/load "usernames", how to show a "Top Scores" screen, saving/load the last level the user played...)

This is just accessing to Kong Stats, saving data (score, gameWon) and loading Statistics previously saved. I just trying the API to make my games
