the dendroid was such a helpful unit. minotaur den? dendroid. enemy knights inbound? dendroid. It came to an end in year 41 to a lot of hydras. after it died, tigers came out of nowhere and slaughtered the injured hydra and their spawn. Of course, the next day we were trampled by some knights that manned up with my dendroid gone.

I think it would makes it way easier if we knew what is the maximum of each unite. I mean, yes, I have 3 stables, so I can have 9 knights. But adding a "Knights : 6 out of 9" or "Knights : 6 / 9" could be sweet and very simple to add. Great game by the way.

The seeming simplicity of this game belies its depth. Its fast pace allows you to try out the different civilizations and zany strategies with each one without committing a huge amount of time to it. Genius design, well done.

@Mellington: I just won one with the Mongols (normal diff). Spent initila 1000 g on a knight so peasants could farm in peace, gold isnt a problem as battles give gold. I built some 3 early churches so I could grab some early faith bonuses. Late game was tough, but I managed to win with some 15 knights 12 swords and some upg knights

@Wicky3d: Ok, Mongols haven't got prerequisites for the cowshed, right... but how do they survive until putting together enough gold for having a second knight or a swordman? I never achieve it, even with the gold bonus. Moreover, they have to suck even more getting so little faith...

I'm not entirely sure it's possible to win Very Hard. Thus far, my best strategy has been to play as the French and rush for People Preach. If I can do that, holding out until year 25 is easy, as my armies survive every battle with only a couple causalties (easy to replenish) and I accumulate peasants and therefore gold without needing to invest any. However, I find that it's nearly impossible to defeat the 2 minotaurs and 2 hyrdas that appear at year 25 without either the belief which halves their health (impossible to get if I rush People Preach) or my own minotaurs (which costs 10000 before I have a ghost of a chance). It's pretty ridiculous, imo.

Finally made it to year 51. :D Japanese is a HUGE advantage early game, because your equally powerful unit is way stronger, so no need to use militia, which lets you build more gold faster. Weaker late game when you have a big army. For beliefs I went up the one that lets you steal the enemy militia, and that makes a huge difference, too.

its a good game but there is a point when you enemy instead of 5 swordsmen and a millitian sends 4 HYDRAS, i think ist too much

Really need to work on the balancing of this game with all the different options before I can rate it above 3 stars. Love the concept though.

Great game, I love it. Take a 5 star rating good sir!
I would love to see some troop positioning options and an endless mode too, as mentioned above.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I really love this game the only problem is the random formation of your units. Its often just luck or bad luck here that determines how many units you lose.

In my last game on normal difficulty, I'd been ahead of computer all game, then had to face 71 friggin swordsmen and 15 knights - + a bunch of militia, but since I had 'people preach' they all swapped to my side. Seriously, how much bonus free gold does the PC get in the late stages! I did win the battle but was pretty much wiped out for another inevitable huge army on turn 50. Makes it v. difficult to win unless you have saved a shrink/transform spell, which I guess is the point (I used up mine to get thru turn 40 mythical beast attack).

Found a probably-glitch: During the "Brutal Force" special mode, if you play as the Romans, you can get knights via building Stables.

Hey, just a quick note: When you have the max amount of angels for the amount of sky cities you have, instead of displaying the message it just says "msg.nomoreangl". Loving the game though, good work!

It's a strategy game without all the fluff. Extreme replayability, and that's what I really like about it.
A small learning curve when first playing the game as nothing is really explained, you just go, but nothing that is so complex that you can't figure out just by playing and/or reading the text.

Wow, this game is really, really fun! Took me a couple tries before I realized you need to build a lot of peasants up front, but once I got that I made it to year 50... although that final battle beat me badly. :P

Did anybody manage to finish the game on very hard? I mean, i had 12 swordsmen, 3 knights, an exorcist with exorcism at year 25, i think its nearly impossible to gather a bigger army at this point (i didn't lose a single unit nor did i turn a single peasant into a militiaman up to this point), I had exorcism and yet the 2xHydras 2xMinotaurs STEAMROLLED over my army (despite exorcism halving their health!!!) . What da fuq.

This is incredibly hard, but so fun! I only survived the final battle by the skin of my teeth, any suggestions for how to do better?

Add auto-save (before battle with 1 day). Each battle should give a monetary reward. We should be warned in how many days the enemy will invade. We newhich we can upgrade. Wave after wave after wave of units with 20 knights is too hard (alter hard waves with easy waves). Make the game a little more strategic but the enemies a little more random (e.g. instead of 20 knights we can face 100 militia). Add retreat button - and a health bar or something (each retreat gives the player 10 days to prepare but the player loses a percentage of territory). When health bar is 0 (all territory lost), the player loses. Make more maps (with rivers and impassible objects). Allow us to build watchtowers and war machines. Allow us to place units in what formation we want. Let us chose for soldiers the Ai - Group (unit attacks an enemy soldier that is already attacked)/ Solo (unit seeks to attack enemy units that are not attacked) / Stealth (unit attacks units while it is not attacked. ).

I would assume that on normal my units and theirs are evenly matched, but my militiamen lose about 8 times out of 10, which to me suggests there is a very slight handicap on normal.

@Mellington: Mongols start with stable and can build cow shed right away, which completely eliminates the need to build any chicken farms. This allows for a very early economy, not that bad.

And then my Dendroid fell... and my angel that was luckly stuck against him ... died... then came back... then died... then came back... then died... then came back... Then, the enemy was warded off. :|

This game is adictive and funny, and I've finished it with Celts and Greeks by now... the only bad thing is balance: I think that Spanish, French and Byzantines are bad, and Mongols are just... unplayable :S
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
this is fantastic! Just the sort of game I would like to see more of. I hope you feel encouraged to improve and expand it, and inspire others to make more like it!
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I just lost with 2 swordmen and 1 militia vs 2 militia + 1 swordman.
The battles in this game are too broken. You should have some way to control your units

Great game! I miss the kind of simplicity and enjoyment you absorb from these kinds of games. I thought this type of genre died some time ago...good to see it again. :)

For myself, I have found that Greek + Ore armor route (+2 armor) is the easiest way to beat the game. Now I'm struggling in hard 40+ since enemy army is so overwhelming .__.
