Ahh...something us older folks can appreciate..cheers to Amiga times.
Here are two handy terraforming tips: 1. To get more of the land recovered from water in less time. Pick a water tile and do a double 'increase' in same point, you'll create a hill..now with last click, do a one 'decrease'. You'll get a nice and clean 4x4 flat. You can apply same idea when leveling bigger mountains.
2. for those that don't know how to clean burned land and other junk nasties littering our soil, either increase/decrease the contaminated spot, and flatten it back. And since I'm such a nice chap..don't like that Fire Pillar burning your village? Quickly decrease the land bellow it to make some water..poof..gone.

Played the hell out of Populous back in the day so naturally loved this game. The one and only problem I had was the mouse cursor got in the way. The middle of the dots isn't the same as where the mouse pointer is.

This strategy seemed to help me: Build a huge settlement, ie making a large plat plain. Then Order them to attack, use the Russia's scorched earth tactic and lightening storm the hell out of the enemy base. Your men will wash in like a flood. Very easy and very humoring. Great game 5/5

If ever created, I would probably spend hours playing a Player vs. Player component to this game. Could implement stats and unlockable totems as reward for extended play.

Very excellent game. My absolute favorite here on Kongregate. This really brings back so much nostalgia. But I would definitely be willing to even pay for a more full-featured version of this game.

For those having trouble with the Fire Hero level, remember that your objective's to get the token, not to beat the other two tribes. Focus on building up and rushing to the token instead of trying to fight the enemies. The level's not really set up so that you can win by force.

Badge doesnt seem to be working. game seems a ripoff of civilization, or whatever it was called :P Still decent, but please use the classic viewmode as default, the blurry stuff hurts the eyes.

a fast win at lvl 30 is make all your houses at same level when you start (3 blocks up water level.) then get 1000 mana and use water storm 2 times ^^ you ll all green army and almost all yellow army (5-6 soldiers left) then go and kill the rest ^^.

Very nice. Altough there could be a key combination for raising/lowering a whole area of terrain, instead of just having to click at each grid individually.

it doesn't play, I'm on chrome with the latest flash player, it loads, then gets stuck with just a floppy disc (save button) at the top right corner.
I've moved all music files to the Kongregate servers to see if that helps. The floppy disk is when it's loading music ... Do let me know if it helps!!! :D

Agreed on the Fire Hero level being a very sharp and abrupt increase in difficulty over the previous levels which were so easy that they gave very little opportunity to learn skills to deal with this kind of difficulty. The first eighteen levels you could virtually get through by flattening all the land within sight of your people and doing little else. That difficulty increase combined with the outdated controls makes for a more frustrating experience. Populous was a very good game for its time, but this imitation inherits some of the more awkward control and interface elements. Things like the lack of zooming, awkward isometric controls, and so on.

This is probably the first game I've played that had an option to import a savefile built into the menu. Very nice feature developer!

The tutorial was insufficient, at level four I got stuck and was clueless what to do. 3/5 for a potential funny game.

My strategy for the later levels, which I call 'The Flood':
1) Build as high a mountain as possible with terraforming near your starting position.
2) Once you can't go any higher, build so that the top of that mountain is 3x3 squares.
3) Set a waypoint there. Make your people walk there.
4) Build settlements again.
You now have a city at the highest place of the map.
5) Expand your low-laying cities. Continue untill you have 500 mana.
6) Water storm!! Most of the enemies will drown, but some of your people will survive.
7) Repeat water storm if needed. At the two last levels, I had to do 3 untill everything but the mountaintop was drowned.

I really like the game. I haven't played Populous or whatever the name was, but I really like this game. Although, it would be nice if there was additional information menu, where you can see what each thing does, and currently I'm only winning by flattening the whole place. Most of the times, I'm so busy with flattening, that I randomly get my objectives done, and then I'm sad. A bigger flattening tool would be useful, though. 4.8/5!

The controls are unnecessarily difficult and the game is ridiculously easy. It's an interesting idea, but needs a ton of work to be a good game.

How am I suppose to beat the 19th level ? (collect fire otem hero)
I'm stuck between reds and greens and they keep attacking from the very beginning ! The previous levels were very easy and on this one they beat the crap out of me.

this game is pretty bad. its just a matter of seeing how fast you can terraform a large area of land into a level flat area to expand your town.

I like the style of the game, but terraforming is a time intensive nuisance. You have to click one change at a time and the cursor jumps around on you. Why not add terraform option that allows you to cover a wide area at once? For example, click on any one point, hold down the button and drag out to another point. The entire area gets raised or lowered to match the height of the first point clicked. Populous didn't do that either, but it's something I wish it had. 4/5, but I'd give it a 5/5 with a better terraform option.

For those who see black screen with save icon on top left corner.... if that happens, simply press right click on the game screen - settings - local savedata - drag the bar to the rightmost side - press ok - refresh the screen. This happened to me, and i fixed this way. Just commenting if someone encounters same problem

I finished a lot of the levels just by terraforming so that my people would get a bunch of high-powered fortresses. Often, I didn't even end up using a single spell. The advice at the beginning of one of the levels said to quickly get my people away, but I pretty much crushed them just by terraforming a bunch of flat terrain for my people and then doing an attack rush. In short, fun, but not much strategy to this. It's been rare so far that I've had to actually use a spell.

With terraforming, do you ever want something else than flatten the island? So a tool that will terraform everything to one set level (heigth 0-9 or something with 0 at sea level) would be great and a lot RSI friendlier. :)
