Would it kill you to mention somewhere how many levels there are? Puzzle games without any progress indication just feel so unpolished.

Just great! Initially I thought this is an impossible challenge and it will take me months to figure out how to get the stars but after I got the concept the game got even more interesting to play! I love also the humour of the rescued kitties *.* Updated my rating from four to five stars after this; only the last room & star surprised me but I'll take it as a gift after the hard thinking ;)

willo2ty2 is lying I was wondering and tried it but wether trough a flag or just by walking to the next room you can't bring two cats to the next room! the creator actually teaches us how to get it :P

hey people! to get the star in 4,8 and in 5,5 you need to bring corpses from other rooms all the way over to the star room. hope this helps! p.s do 4,8 first, then use the corpse you already have AND the corpse from 4,8 to 5,5
Yeah, maybe choosing a barking sound to be the melody wasn't the best decision. Plus, the audio mixer I coded for this game is pretty cruddy. (My next game should have a better soundtrack and mixer, hopefully).

Good job me for figuring out the one with the dynamite hole last..srsly last.. even after getting all stars and the captain

I have just ended my 5th playthrough of this game and no other puzzle game gave me so much satisfaction. It was challenging, mind bending even with the respawn mechanics, but not impossible to get all stars. After completing the game half a year after the release I have only one final request.

A sequel will probably come out... in the far-ish future. Currently working on a game called Tauriel Teaches Typing, which (obviously) isn't a 5 Step Steve Sequel.

Some of the mechanics are vague, I'll just try random moves and somehow pass without understanding how I did it. Also in 5,5 for the star the respawn mechanic I had to look up. There are clever mechanics here, and most are explained/paced well but some not so. Just me? Enjoyed it anyway :)

Great game!!! Love the techniques you have to learn. 5,5 really warped my brain! You have to learn future techniques to get the star!!

...Who playtested this game? Is star 5, 5 just not possible? Or am I a moron who can't do anything right? Because if I had to put my money on it... Probably both.

It's a good puzzle game just wish the way to do the last few kittens were a bit more explained. Without giving spoilers the way to make more of steve doesn't come out as this is how you do it till someone points it out. 4/5 for me.

The mechanics regarding cats moving at once got extremely tiring after I ended up wandering too far in one direction or got sent back to the ship on accident. Other than that, the game was pointless and boring. 1/5

I know what this is inspired by. Well done on giving tribute to my favorite flash game of all time, Escape From Puppy Death Factory.

If you make another game with this kind of mechanics, make it with 15 steps so you can make puns using the song "15 Step" from Radiohead.

Came back to give this another play. Love it when I know I had solved something previously but cannot for the life of me figure out what to do on a replay (yet). Still looking forward to a sequel.
Actually, I've kinda put the sequel on hiatus (sorry!). I'm currently working on a different game right now. I'm planning on finishing 5SS 2 sometime, but it might not be out for a while.

So I took awhile on an easy puzzle, trying to figure out what I was doing wrong as I swore was an imopssible. Then it hit me... I was trying to go back the way I came. Not sure how I lost my sense of direction... RIP

well, that was pretty challenging. A few times I thought I was stuck, but then I got it. Got the other 20 kittens, but I don't think I'll be getting the stars and therefore the last kitten

For 1-11, every time you respawn you get a cat on ALL activated flags plus one other. If you activate flags with two cats at once then die without touching other flags you can get more cats. Also you can push dead cats through spikes and if they hit a flag they come back to life. Before you get the rescue on that stage you should start a life with 4 cats total.

Some interesting ideas... perhaps... otherwise return to "nice" 8 pixel graphics and generally to game playing concepts that were probably fashionably 25 or so years ago...
I don't understand your point. Are you saying this kind of gameplay originated in 1994 (when 16-bit graphics were the norm)? I'd say Sokoban-esque puzzle games started in 1982. And which "game playing concepts" do you not like?

Wow, I really enjoy this game. I'm impressed with the difficulty of the hardest star! Took me hours. I also love how easy it is to mess up and have to start over, really forcing you to pay attention.

@andehhacks5 When you get to the far right flag at the bottom, go down to stop the boulder from cloning, then clone yourself and pushe the boulder up to where the spike is. After that just clone yourself into a horde of steves andfill up the row of spikes so you can go left. The next room is harder, though, can anyone help with 7,8?
