Thanks for the response developer. I managed to get the first start now with that trick. Great challenge which is fun :).

qxsuxzgybu's 'solution' for 7,8 is not the only easy and probably not intended solution for that level, I 100%ed the entire game multiple times (for fun ;)) using my own 'method' for 7,8 which consists of pushing the dead cat left into a purple flag. Specifics: LEFT 3, UP 4, LEFT 5, RIGHT 5, UP 1, RIGHT 1, UP 3, LEFT 8, UP 1. I checked qxsuxzgybu's solution to see if my solution is different (and it is). TBH though until I saw that comment I thought it was the right solution (and the left area was a decoy). On another note... I had to use Edge to play the game (I almost always use Mozilla Firefox but for some reason 'This operation is insecure') but I loved this game even more than your 'Can't Jump' games (which are really good) and all so... 5* anyway ;)

Suggestion for an elegant solution for base teleports:
Press "H" for hub, You see the bases numbered on the map and just use arrow keys to select a base, then Press Enter or "T" for teleport. You could also add star rooms that we've visited before.

Well.. just a few minutes after I got the solution. I don't know why it happened just after I posted a comment xD
Overall this game is great, the respawn mechanic was used at its full potential. I hope we have a sequel ;)
(and sorry for posting 2 comments in a row^^)

Ahhhhhhhh! I need only 1 more star but I can't get it. It's the one in the bottom left room. I achieved getting 3 cats (2 at the top and 1 at the middle) but activating those 3 flags at the same time seems too difficult.

You named the cat space-captain "Laika," after the dog that was the first animal to orbit the Earth? And then the cat with a dog's name *didn't* turn out to be dog double-agent merely pretending to be a cat?

I agree with the users that said it should be possible to teleport to every room. Just some ideas: hwo about you can just move on the map just like if it were tiles on a map? that way you could select every map you have visited already. I think on most maps it would be fine to just put you on a default flag there and those were it actually would matter from which side you came from: Either lock those out (red colored) or save the last step you made/ last time you visited it?
I'll probably only do fast warps to bases (not teleporters or other rooms). Since it's an often requested feature, it's probably going in at some point!

I've noticed several new games lately where "audio doesn't work on Safari". Why? Old games have worked fine for years. Is there some new standard that Safari isn't complying with?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
The year was 20xx and x=20. Does this mean that the year is 202020 or that it is 20400 (20 followed by 20*20) or that it is 8000 (20*20*20)?

This was really fun. I'm not going to give a real critique but instead I'll mention how when I played this I thought that this was a unique mixture between Baba Is You and VVVVVV

Really fun game, but the starts seem impossible to get. Am I missing something? Do you need to bring a lot of rocks to solve them moving them between room?
SPOILERS: if you've been to the area at the lower-left corner of the map (room 2,10), you need to use what it teaches you to get the stars. You can't move rocks between rooms.

@Lureahawk: Take a look here: https://www.bontegames.com/2019/05/5-step-steve-browser.html
There is a solution there that worked for me.

Regarding teleporting between bases with keyboard controls -- from the map screen, you could allow cycling through the bases visited with left/right.

Excellent puzzle game, bravo! I liked how the game explained itself without instructions, you see this a lot these days but it felt like it worked well here. My only slight criticism is that the map system didn't add much to the gameplay and the world felt a bit "empty". It might have been nice if there were a few more puzzles involving traversing multiple rooms or some exploration/discovery aspects. Looking forward to what you come up with next!!

Deceptively fun and clever puzzle game with puzzles that range from easy to brain bender. Very happy coming across this little gem.
Important gameplay mechanic: If you step on 2+ permanent save spots at the same time with 2+ dogs, then step off all of them and use up 5 steps, you will revive with even MORE dogs that are normally available. This mechanic is required to access the bottom-left map puzzles, and to obtain 5 of the 6 stars.

The only potential mistake I found is on level 7,8. It's way too easy and the mechanism on the left side of the level with platforms, ice, and spikes can be bypassed entirely. Makes me wonder if this isn't the intended solution: Left 3, up 2, left 7, up 2, right 5, up 1, right 1, up 3, left 8, up 1.

Excellent game. Finally beat it 100%. The star at 5,5 was the most difficult for me. One of the most challenging games I've played in a while. You explore the mechanics so well, and yet I feel there's still so much more that can explored. Looking forward to a sequel!

Uhh, what the hell do you do on the first level? Got flags, telling me to move. I move to a flag, then moves replenish. I move to another flag and same thing. I move to all the flags and nothing happens. I run out of moves and it restarts at the last flag. I press enter or space or escape or anything. Nothing happens.

Whew! Once I figured out how respawning worked, the impossible rooms became less impossible and it was incredibly rewarding to figure them out. Fantastic game!

Extremely clever and creative puzzles! Loved it! The best part was that stars that seemed impossible at first were totally doable later, not because I unlocked new abilities, but because I just understood the puzzle mechanics better.

Not sure about my crashing, doesn't seem to be the game's fault - prob something else on Kong. My only issue is the completionist ending feels like a bad end, and now I need to replay to see if the worse ending is better.

Quite an enjoyable challenge. Liked how it didn't spell it all out, but still explained the mechanics when they came up. Will the next game you make be something like "6 Step Sally"? (5/5)

It's quite the head-scratcher. Some puzzles had me stumped for a while, but it never got frustrating. A unique and really lovely game.

A super simple concept (the concept is right in the title of the game - you can take only 5 steps) but very well executed, exploring the depth of that concept. Graphics are simple but utilitarian. Excellent puzzle game.

What happens if I try to get on the ship without every (+1) cat? Didn't try it and don't really want to reset progress XD

Part 1 of Room 6,11 (right side) Move the rock down, then move the rock to the left...
Go to the nearest checkpoint, move two spaces down, move one space left, move one space down,
and move the rock out of the way. The left side is unbeatable...
Part 2 of Room 6,11 (right side again) one space down, one space right, one space left,
two spaces down... Congratulations!!! You have beat room 6,11 using a guide!!!
What are you trying to say here? Dying shouldn't reset you at a checkpoint? That would invalidate the entire point of the step counter, if not this entire game.
I think Chrome's autoplay blocker is causing this. I can work on potentially solving the issue, but in the meantime, try setting the "autoplay policy" in chrome://flags to "no user gesture is required".

room (5, 5): step1. make 'second dead cat' alive in fourth pink flag. step2. now you have 2 orange cats. do 'step1' using first orange cat and place third dead cat right next to fifth pink flag using second orange cat to its new pink flag(fifth) save. step3. now you have 3 orange cats and 2 usable dead cats. go for star!
