Under rating threshold (show) @Dev - Correct me if I am wrong, but it's impossible to get a gold star on the first board. You need to win in 6 turns to get it. Turn 1: Scandanavia to Ukraine. 2. Ukraine to Kazakhstan 3. Kazakhstan to India and China 4. India & China to Siam 5. Siam to Indonesia 6. Indonesia to New Guinea and Western Australia. It takes a 7th turn to get Eastern Australia which means no gold star.

Under rating threshold (show) some tips for beating Crazy: Try to start in Africa, the choke points are good, send out 3 armies to take over the neutral 2's, on average it works out better. Absolutely murder any enemy you come across early on once you've secured a territory bonus. Once Africa is secured, don't wait up.. I pushed out through europe and the middle east and took over the rest of the map from there. Check for AI players being eliminated, and then focus on attacking the strongest alliance.

Under rating threshold (show) Following up the huge number of armies that the AIs are getting, I found in the history that on Turn 2: AI 4 & 5 played a reinforcement card Turn 3: AI 4 & 5 played a second reinforcement card Turn 4: (First turn I can play a card) AI 3 & 7 also played cards Turn 5: AI 4 & 6 play a reinforcement card. At this point I stopped looking at cards, as it was obvious that the program is favoring AI 4, as well as allowing all members of the AI teams to have access to the same card pool. This means that the AIs do not have to wait until Turn 4 to have three pieces of a card, but rather complete a card every single turn they each take at least one territory.

+ - !

(5)

Developer response from FizzerWL

Teams share the same pool of cards. This works in your favor on the Europe level but it works against you on Crazy and Insane.

Under rating threshold (show) The insane challenge seems completely impossible, they rush you with gigantic armies to which there is no answer. Abandon cards work great to halt an advance, but there are so many other places they can attack from. Has anybody actually beat this?

+ - !

Developer response from FizzerWL

It is indeed very difficult! But yes, people have beaten it.

Under rating threshold (show) Woooo, finally beat Crazy. Started in West Africa, took it over zone by zone. Stuck huge armies in Brazil, Spain and the middle part of Antarctica. Then invaded the Antarctic and South America at the same time. Put double whatever the enemy had at each choke point (Spain, Scott, Egypt, Venezuela and Colombia. Then started invading North America, put large forces in Alaska, took over Greenland, then joined my forces in Europe, and pushed forward along the western front. Easy... after 300 attempts. Hope that helps some people!

Under rating threshold (show) I too saw the AI teams add 9 army units each on turn two. How does this work?

+ - !

(3)

Developer response from FizzerWL

When the game is over, use history to go back to that point in time where you can see the whole map. Then you can see how they got every army - use the red button in the top right to see if they played cards.

Under rating threshold (show) Finally done crazy, but it was pure luck. No amount of strategy will prevent the AI armies wiping you. I was just lucky on a go capturing all America relatively unopposed and no big attacks from the borders.

Under rating threshold (show) So I've been trying to beat the crazy challenge for days now. Today I just spent a while browsing the history of my last failed attempt, when I noticed that the AIs all got 9 armies to place on turn 2! They had no bonus continents, and unless I completely misunderstand how card work, there is no way that they should be able to have a card completed after the first round. I bet I could beat them with comparative ease if they only got 5 armies base like I do.

Under rating threshold (show) I am not quite sure but the fith challenge (crazy) is pretty unbalanced. After 10 turns one major faction is almost completly destroyed, and I have to face an army which is impossible to kill. Maybe it would be a help if fog of war can be lifted for this challnge so you see what enemy is doing.

+ - !

(5)

Developer response from FizzerWL

You can play it without fog, but it's "unofficial" - wins don't go on the high scores or unlock the next level, but it's a great way to learn. See http://wiki.warlight.net/index.php/Single-player_levels#Customizing

Under rating threshold (show) quite nice game. just that the crazy challenge is too crazy... after trying not to get bashed in the first 4 rounds for about 15 times because you get placed next to an enemy, im controlling the south globe... but now i have two united enemies on each passage, which means double force against my normal... not even a small chance of surviving... they just run over me. any tips for this level? i think it is a bit too unfair ^^

Under rating threshold (show) Pretty fun if you like this sort of game. Understanding of some major gameplay elements eludes me. What exactly is the math behind determining combat results? How does the game determine the order in which players' commands are carried out? Also, the UI needs serious work. I shouldn't have to zoom out to move troops from Alaska to Kamchatka. When I dispatch a new army, a number box appears and blocks the surrounding territories so that I can't see or click on them. When the command dialogue pops up, usually half of it is off the screen and I have to drag it into place.

Under rating threshold (show) I'm not missing that it's a 1v3v3. I kept track of which AI were on which team in a few attempts not to provoke one of the teams while I went after the other. Didn't stop them from dropping everything to wipe me out a few rounds after finding me, even when they had extensive borders with opposing AI territory.

+ - !

(1)

Developer response from FizzerWL

There's a random factor to the AI behavior too, so sometimes you just get unlucky. I promise the code doesn't tell it to go after the human player :)

Under rating threshold (show) it sucks when i and an ally attack the same territory and on next round he owns that territory and 'steal' my troops

+ - !

You can set your attack mode to "Attack only" which means attack if it's an enemy, and do nothing otherwise.

Under rating threshold (show) Its been a while since I've poured hours and hours into a game without badges, even to the point of having curiously warped dreams about enemy distributions. You took Risk--one of the more entertaining boardgames, in my opinion--souped it up, made it shiny and fun to play one player, employed the abilities that playing on a computer grants elegantly, but without overdoing it. You legitimately made it better, as far as I'm concerned. In short, I am supremely impressed that a game with no real graphics, storyline or music can be so engaging and well designed. Cheers! I very much hope this gets badges, even though I'm pretty firmly stuck on the insane challenge

+ - !

(4)

Developer response from FizzerWL

Thanks! Badges should come soon - I got a message from Kongregate today about them so I know they're being worked on.

Under rating threshold (show) Another big thing is attacking in order of difficulty. The first units to attack get a "luck bonus." You can see how lucky you are on the graphs, though I have no idea what it means. Anyways, pick the big battles first, then the smaller ones. This applies to reinforcements as well. Also, after you commit click on see all and then skip to end this also slightly increases luck.

Under rating threshold (show) Muahahaha! I found a new technique. Poke the lion: When you have two territories next to a large enemy group attack the group with 1 unit, then hit em again with the territory you think they are going to attack. This forces the enemy to attack you and lose to your defenses, then your troops on the same turn attack the weakened defenders.

Under rating threshold (show) Really really annoyed my game didn't save, I had so much time invested in it. Which is to say, I really like what you've made here, it's elegant, has great AI, conveys information well and quickly; in short it's a great game. Under rating threshold (show) The guys who did this games pricing scheme did it right. It's not that it's a one time pay as opposed to a subscription or a bunch of micro tansactions. It's that buying something cool, but it doesn't effect game play balance. Games that give paying players an advanage, much less an overbalancing one, scare off non paying players who might one day actualy be paying players. Good job guys.

Under rating threshold (show) Couple of things needed to reduce micromanagement imo: some sort of hotkey (ie. space) to close the current window. A hotkey to turn in all cards and close the window. You should look into snapping/docking windows to the side of the stage, having to drag windows that appear off screen is super annoying. Otherwise, very fun and strategic game - always loved risk. If you are going to make a warlight 2 (or expansion pack), a way to fortify your position without giving it away (atleast for a turn or two) would be great imo.

Oct. 12, 2011

Under rating threshold (show) So I've gone and played another three rounds on crazy since my last comment, and the AI consistently targets me much more harshly than other AIs. Ignoring the game where I got sandwiched between the different members of one team, it doesn't seem to matter whether I attack first or even defend my borders heavily or not. Even when they have other targets, they prefer to overwhelm me with massive armies rather than take shots at each other. This last game the enemies even preferred me over untaken territories that would've given them extra armies each turn. I say again, this game direly needs a fairer AI.

+ - !

(3)

Developer response from FizzerWL

I think you're missing that Crazy is a 1v3v3. Some of the AIs are teamed up with each other - those AIs will actively work together.

Antifire11

Oct. 12, 2011

Under rating threshold (show) Overall an amazing game, well done. But the AI system always see's me as a threat. Everytime I try level 5, I am attacked and surrounded by at least 5 factions each time. Very unfair AI system.
