I didnt realise how rediculously whiney the kongregate audience is. As for someone who's taken at least an AP physics class, with a whole lot of gravitational and newtonian mechanics, the calculations seem nearly spot on for something that's running at a 1/20 of a second refresh rate. In fact, I found it to be much better at physics tha I thought a game like that would be made. I was kind of proud of the guy who made the game when I saw some of the conceptual drawings and how they actually DID have *gasp!* real life math in mind. You guys are really mean for a bunch of people who complain something you dont seem to know anything about at a game you didnt have to pay anything for.

For those of you having difficulty getting 3000+ km putts: I suggest you go to the third level on the starburst cup - i've gotten better than 3k twice on this level without trying to. just aim for it to hit the planet with the hole on it, and if this is done with too much force, the ball should hit the target planet, fly out of the screen and wrap around all the planets to finally sweep back through the hole. i know it is kind of hard, but this is the best place i've found to get over 3k.

CodeGuy: Gravity is proportional to 1/r squared, where r is the distance between the bodies... Being twice as far away from the other planets should make the gravity pretty negligible compared to being practically on top of a more massive planet.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
code guy might have the right idea in theory, but it is not executed in the game at all. The Starhurst Crown level is horrible for this.

The planet physics were adjusted so that the more massive planets did not have an overwhelming effect. Was that adjustment made to the suns as well? If not, that would explain the "massive pull into sun" effect that many of us are seeing.

nice game and well executed. the graphic is good and not overdone (no unnecessary alpha blending or other distracting effects). nevertheless, i still would like to have the quality option. please don't take away the quality option. why do developers always have to take away the quality option? :(

CodeGuy has the right idea. I'll be knocking up a page explaining this better, but at all times all of the planets exert a force on the ball. The average of these forces is the direction that the ball is pulled towards most. Factor in the ball's current momentum and thats the "physics engine" in a nutshell.

I think part of the confusion over the games physics is coming from people not looking at all the planets.
Bigger planets do have more gravity than smaller planets. This is clear from any level that only has two or three planets in it. I think people are getting confused because they only look at the closest planet to the ball.
Yes, that planet that the ball is heading towards is small. However, there are several other planets on the other side of this planet. They are exerting gravity on the ball too, so that's why the ball heads in that direction even though there is a bigger planet in another direction.
Same thing with suns. A lot of the suns are in the center of the screen. Thus, the gravity of all the planets averages out to the middle of the screen, making the ball go near the sun more often than the other planets. Check out the levels that have no sun but lots of planets, you'll see similar results with the whatever planet is in the middle of those levels.

I enjoy this game, but, as other people have said, the physics are off. The larger planets have a weaker gravitational pull then the smaller planets, or suns.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Nevermind, officially 1/5. After close examination, your game is all off. I'm sorry, but as much as I like the challenges and the design and what not, the poor scripting just ruins it.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
the only real problem is that the suns have a far greater pull effect than the planets... and that gets really annoying
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
really fun game, but why do the fire planets have the greatest pull? mostly in the 9th level, starhurst, i can shoot the ball anywhere and it will magically be pulled towards the suns. but great game, 4/5

I can't seem to ever get a longer putt than 634 even though I have gotten over 2000 several times on a single hit that didn't end up in the "hole."

The physics are horrendous. I know because a guy on a bus once explained physics to me. He said that anything moving faster than 200km per hour turns into chocolate sauce. No chocolate sauce = terrible physics.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Sorry, but your physics are all off. I taken a physics class and this is nothing like what real physics are like. But still 3/5
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
for a flash game the physics are very good. seeing as i'm doing this sort of gravitational physics in a-level i can say that they seem to work just fine.
an enjoyable game and an original idea

WTF!!?????
all my data is earsed!!!!!!! fix it!!!!!! (i had all achivments and the 5 first platinum medals and 5 rest was gold)

I'll be releasing a web page devoted to explaining the physics behind the game, and the common misconceptions people are having within the next few days. Until then stop whining about a lack of realism and read my full comments. In fact, when I release the web page I'll also recompile the game with perfect physics and you'll see how god damn unplayable it is.

The creator said that it's easier to get the long put in "The Wasteland" (Round 3 Hole 1) and he's right. I got 3400 in 8 shots.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
this game is ridiculously unrealistic, and the attempts at trying to make it
correct' physics wise has only made it worse. if u are going to do a job do it properly and the set up of this game isnt done properly as many of the deflections and gravitational pulls are illogical and inconceivable, not to mention in no way 'newtonian' as the claim is made by the farcical creator.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Suns just seem to have more gravity because they're more devastating. When the ball starts heading towards a planet you don't really think about it and forget it quickly. When the ball heads towards a sun you beg for it to miss. It's a much bigger deal, so it makes a bigger impression on us.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
for anyone still moaning about the suns' gravity, there is no difference between the gravity of a sun and that of a planet. I made this in the edit mode to illustrate that:
http://kundor.org/pub/gravitee.png
I think that shows pretty clearly that the ball is affected equally by the sun and the planet.

I really don't like the distance achievements, especially since they're required to get a badge. Badges shouldn't be built so that you just play the game over and over and over until you get lucky. That makes the game tedious.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Yeah... This game is impossible to truly apply any rational thinking to, because the proportionality of the gravities and what have you are just so off. It's frustrated me beyond belief.

under 4 strokes for all gates=gold (platina whit the things turned of) (it ok whit 4 strokes to)
and to get over 3km putt: it'sjust lucky i got and 8900 km putt whit just luck

Overall it's not a bad game, but it has some bugs (suns gravity, out of bounds range, etc.). Right now the most annoying to me is getting gold for levels 9 and 10, I just shot a 17 (with the line) for level 9 and got a silver, then shot below a 30 with the line off and still got a silver, can someone please explain this to me?

the suns have so muhc more gravity than planets with equal mass it seems, they even have more gravity than planets with more mass
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
I totally agree with Gen. A ball flying by a planets mass of 350+ gets sucked into the sun further away with a mass of 200?
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Fix the sun's gravity. It can somehow have half of the gravity of another planet, but end up attracting the ball anyway.
