Strategy for Level 12: Avoid close combat if at all possible during the initial waves to save your pirates. If you have at least 120 pirates leftover at the end just charge the boss ship and your pirates can take out his. Since you aren't doing damage to his ship the additional ships will never spawn!

So when you are pointing North/South (bow to the top of the screen. aft to the bottom), what meaning does "shooting up or down" have? When I am moving around, it sucks to shoot 20 or so cannons in the wrong direction... Seriously, it needs to fire starboard (to the right of the relative direction of the ship) or port (to the left of the relative direction of the ship. I never know which way I'm going to shoot unless I am pointing left or right.

Best tactic for level 12 - upgrade ship defense for last level (don't do it earlier) - first come 5 small ships, then 2 of the same, then 3 bigger ones, then 2 even bigger ones. Try to defeat all of these ships with CANNON ONLY. When the boss comes on the screen go to him STRAIGHT AWAY. Don't bother shooting him untill you are in close combat. THEN SHOOT ALL THE TIME. When the smaller boats come to help the boss boat, GO AWAY FROM THE BOSS, and kill the smaller ones with cannons (boss will shoot at you - try to get him to shoot the small boats too). When the first 2 small boats are sunk - STRAIGHT BACK AT BOSS - pirate fighting + shooting.

About how many men on your boat does it take to kill a man on the enemy boat? Because if it's 4 to 1, you can possibly kill the boss with only a bit over a 100 men in melee. while firing point blank of course to help push the odds.. Well. Unless that summons those stupid mini boats, then you may wanna just melee.

I love it when there are two enemy ships right next to each other and the one in the back tries to shoot but almost kills the other ship. lol

Fire up? Fire down? What the hell does that mean? If you're going to make a game about naval combat, at least use naval terms so we know where the hell we're firing (starboard and port, that is).

I recommend using harvestsun's strats with some addtion, after maximizing crews, max out reload speed then cannon alongside damage. slide in some speed and turn upgrade after maxing out reload speed. approach the enemy while the boat is horizontal, make contact and shoot everything, you won't lose accuracy bonus and kill the enemy faster even though you lose some treasure..

The last boss, as g3xter mentioned, is twice as fast as you, and shoots across the entire area.
This is not hard to doge, you just juke him out and dont get touched. What is hard, is that every 1000 health or so you drop, he summons a ship to help him. This ship has 2000 health, and it is very close to your ship. This makes you go into a pirate fight every time you pass them, slowing you down, and then you, or the mini-ship will get rocked by 100 cannons. DO not follow Harvestun's guide, as it DOES not WORK on level 12. I, too have given up on the hard badge after 2 hours of trying. Closest I've gotten him to was 6k health, and by that time he had 3 mini-ships. Died because I lost all my pirates. (120 to 0 in that 4k of health.)

They don't just shoot upward spiffydruid. You can switch direction by pressing v. I don't bother with switching directions but just make sure to have my ship tilted so that the cannons shoot in the direction I want it to when my ship is vertical.

For those trying the hard badge, remember to, beside following harrvestsun sugestion, ALWAYS move on the oposite way of the incoming ships. It is a a lot easier to cross the fire line than outrun it. However, remember that there is a acceleration time that you must account for.
Also, if you position yourself in an almost vertical position, you can shot a very focused stream of bulets - very useful to give massive damage to ships on your same line.

Pirates were incredibly common, which is strange considering that throughout the game hundreds die but there is always a steady supply of them available...

(Pirate calling harbor master) "Uh, hello? Oh, yes, I would like to make a complaint, I'm a pirate, and it seems that wherever I'm going, there's always this giant square shaped seawall around me? Well, I mean I still kill a bunch of ships and whatever, but it's kind of annoying. So can you just, like, go get those seawalls down so I can kill more ships and stuff? Oh, you're calling the police and stuff to fix the thing? Oh, yay, thanks for helping me get to kill a bunch more ships."

Followed harvestsun's tactic and failed horribly at level 12.
I highly advise against this tactic. You will not be able to kill the final boss. He has 10,000 hitpoints and is about twice as fast as you. The first 10 levels are ridiculously easy. The difficulty curve is flat. 11 and 12 however aren't. They're like 3 mile high cliff on the difficulty curve. If you do not have all your weapons maxed out, your 160 pirates and 1000 hitpoints will be outnumbered by the 8 ships on the screen that have 2500 to 4000 hp and almost 200 pirates.
I gave up on the hard badge. A slap in the face after one hour of trying.

This game is so easy untill level 10. Level 10 is really hard. Level 11 is impossible. I don't even want to SEE level 12.

For the love of- is there ANY rhyme of reason to the cannon fire? Because I'll pull around for a broadside, and all my cannons fire on the complete opposite side. Every bloody time.

Grrrr, why does my ship get stuck moving? If this is an option enable on my keyboard, please let me know. The game is impossible when you are stuck doing donuts in the corner.

A fairly easy hard badge if you know what to upgrade. And I also got a bit confused, I thought once the bar on upgrades was filled once that you couldn't upgrade it again.

@ darkraider60 <== Harvestsun's method works quite well but on Level 3 start firing on only the Boss (3000 bonus). Levels 3 thru 9 and 10 if you are careful you do the same thing and fire only at the Boss even if it is only one cannonball and you will get the Max Bonus. I get up right alongside for boarding and since you are shooting at the biggest ship on each level your cannon shot is extremely hard to miss. .... I do not recommend these boarding tactics for levels 11 & 12. Count the total number of Pirates, cannons and hit points of each ship on levels 11 & 12. Your 120 Pirates are vastly outnumbered. .... My advice is to fight it out at a distance and trick the enemy into shooting it's own ships. This especially fun when you have two enemy ships approaching each other from opposite directions. Time your shot to arrive at the moment they are passing each other. This is a can't miss broadside. Use the agility of your ship to avoid getting hit and learn to turn on a dime. ...

I tried harvestsun's tactic, and he was spot on with the upgrades, but to get the most money, starting level 3 to 9, shoot a very small amount of cannonballs(and hit with them) to get a 100% accuracy rating after the level. You see, starting from level 3, onwards, a 100% accuracy rating gives you more money than the 2500 gold they give when you don't shoot a thing.
